macoduck Posted June 8, 2021 Share Posted June 8, 2021 (edited) My iggy Charlie is gone. He was loving, annoying, demanding, comical, and a fierce protector. Charlie was my first italian greyhound, a puppy mill-bred boy taken into foster by MidAtlantic IG Rescue. In the past few years he developed a multitude of health issues - thyroid (zero reading on tests), enlarged heart/bad valve/congestive heart failure, and multiple lipomas (one bigger than I could hold in my hand but inoperable). The light in his eyes had been fading for some time but was more noticeable when I returned home from Mountain Hounds. I think he'd been trying to tell me he was ready to go, but I wasn't ready to hear him. Today was the day and luckily still a day too early rather than a day too late. My vet was very gentle in letting him go. Despite their size difference, Mazy and Charlie were best buddies. This is my favorite photo of them both, with Charlie comforting Mazy during every thunderstorm by sitting on her head. Run free, Charlie, and go find Mazy on the other side of the Bridge....
