macoduck Posted November 24, 2022 Share Posted November 24, 2022 Hada, the podenco maneta born 1/20/08 adopted 4/11/18 gone 11/24/22 Hada's name translated to Fairy, and she was given that by the wonderful people at Casa de Postas in Spain. She was abandoned by her hunter-owner and dumped on the streets of Seville. She had scabies, anaplasma, babesia, anemia, mammary tumors, and abuse scars on her body, including some duct tape residue on her muzzle. CdP began the task of restoring her to good health but the time to get her transported to the US was closing for the season. Galgo Podonco Support and Telma Shaw agreed to let me have her, provided I get her spay and cancers were removed. Grateful Greyhounds flew her to NY and then on to Raleigh NC. Despite her difficult beginning, Hada was a little firecracker and the self-proclaimed queen of my household of hounds. Hada's kidneys had begun to decline, she got pickier about food, and was steadily losing weight. It wasn't just the increasing frequency of UTIs, mild vomiting, and diarrhea that she cycled through, but then this week it was as if she was giving up. I took her to the emergency vet this hoping that some subQ fluids would help her until she saw her regular vet next week. But her body was tired and she was ready to go. She passed peacefully in my arms as I told her to go find Georgie, her greyhound sister who had left us yesterday. With today being Thanksgiving, here at our house we are trying to celebrate the lives of Hada and Georgie, and embracing the joy and love we have for the Podencos still here with us: Lulu, Rita, and Howie.
