macoduck Posted November 24, 2022 Share Posted November 24, 2022 Georgie Girl (UMR Cordella) born 10/31/09 adopted 2/14/19 gone 11/23/22 We were the third home for Georgie. Original owner was never identified because that adoption group had closed. Her second owners had found her roaming the streets of Gastonia NC and kept her for a few years before giving her to Greyhound Crossroads. When GC head #KimOwens posted about a senior needing a home, there were many responders. Since I did not live nearby and I was not actively looking to add another greyhound, I told Kim to put me on the bottom of the list but count me in if no one wants her. That didn't take long. We adopted her immediately. We never learned her call name and she just didn't look like a Cordella, but she did respond to "Georgie Girl". She fit in easily with my mixed crew of greyhounds, iggies, podencos, and never misbehaved. She had been in mild kidney failure that had begun to worsen. Her rear hips and legs started to give her trouble. One session of acupuncture and routine Chinese medicine brought us 4 weeks of joy with a girl who acted half her age again. My vet suspected a brain issue caused a sudden problem with mobility and cognitive changes, combined with a loss of appetite. Combined with her kidney disease, she was overwhelmed. She let us know she was ready to go. Vet agreed that there was fixing her. She went peacefully and not a day too late.
