philospher77 Posted September 6, 2017 Share Posted September 6, 2017 It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my shy little spook, Katie. I went to the vet today thinking I was dealing with a little tummy trouble, nothing a good dose of antibiotics wouldn't put right. I wound up in the emergency room being told that she had a splenic mass that was bleeding into her abdomen, almost no platelets to speak of, and the most likely diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma. I decided that the kindest thing to do was let her go, and not subject her to the stress of on-going hospitalization and further treatment. She was a sweet and kind dog, but she found new situations to be extremely stressful, and I believe that her quality of life would have suffered if I made her undergo further treatment. Here is my favorite photo of her, looking absolutely stunning, and as happy as she could be. It's how I will always remember her. She came such a long way from the dog who was terrified to come out of her crate, and made me the trainer that I am today. She showed me that change is possible, and for that I will always be grateful. Run free, sweet girl, and be at peace. Take comfort in knowing that your girl is at peace, pain free and running once again with the wind. I loss two dogs to sudden onset internal hemorrhaging. Both also suspected to be hemangio sarcoma of the spleen/and or liver. I share your pain.
