  1. May your Thanksgiving be warm, wonderful, and full of love. (Batman and Grammy making stuffing @ 2005.)
  2. Oh, Purina ONE lamb & rice tends to still be available, too.
  3. Might see if you can get Purina ONE more easily? They have a turkey & venison (the one with grain) that seems to be available many places, also a Sensitive that is salmon based / flavored too. The ingredients are a little different from Pro Plan and seem to work better for some dogs.
  4. Really useful, especially for helping a dog who's wobbly for whatever reason.
  5. It can take 8-12 weeks for a dog's gut to fully adjust to a new food, and you usually won't start to see any skin benefits for at least 3 weeks and probably 6. Skin doesn't change that fast. If stool quality is an issue during the transition, (1) slow it down and (2) check with your vet as to his/her favorite probiotic. If your pup was allergic to something in the old food but not in the new food, itchiness too can take 8-12 weeks to resolve. I used to think these things happened faster. Sometimes you get lucky and they do, but not always.
  6. I'm so sorry. Hugs to you, and Godspeed to your sweetheart.
  7. I'm so sorry. Godspeed, sweetie.
  8. He was such an awesome dog. I'm sorry you had to say goodbye. Godspeed, good boy.
  9. I'm so sorry for your loss. Godspeed, sweetie.
  10. What an awful, tragic shock. I'm so sorry. Godspeed, baby girl.
  11. Adding grain to a suspect diet doesn't help. The diets recommended by the experts are grain-inclusive Purina, Hill's, Royal Canin, IAMS, Eukanuba. Lots to choose from amongst those. If you wanted to homecook, BalanceIt is a good, easy option. It's run by board-certified veterinary nutritionists.
  12. There's no reason to rotate if your dog is doing well on the food.
  13. Fromm is one of the companies that has had cases on both their grain-free AND their grain-inclusive diets.
  14. Unfortunately, the ONLY test that can rule out -- or rule in -- DCM is an echocardiogram. You can't tell from blood tests or chest x-rays. oldrunners, I'm glad your girl is showing some improvement.
  15. Sending lots and lots of hugs to you.

    River

Your tribute to her is beautiful. As beautiful as River herself. Rest well, incredible girl.
  17. There are four things I would do: (1) Change her food. Get her off the Merrick and on to something like IAMS Lamb & Rice, Purina Beyond Simply9, or Royal Canin gastro. One reason I say that is that I spent $$$ and much worry some years back trying to figure out why my dog vomited at least once and sometimes twice every day. I changed foods for other reasons and it was like turning off a tap. Never had the problem again. Make a SLOW transition -- as in, add 1 tablespoon of new food for 3-5 days, then add another for 3-5 days, etc. Add in some Fortiflora too. (2) Get a m
  18. Glad Penny has improved! Hope her dental went well?
  19. I'm so sorry for your loss. Godspeed, sweetheart. You were the very best.
  20. Vet check, and perhaps a mid-day dog walker temporarily. Most pups can wait 8-9 hours when nothing is going on, but sometimes they have to work up to that. The camera is also a good idea.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
  22. I'm so sorry for your loss.
  23. Purina and Royal Canin both make veterinary foods for digestive issues. Purina's is EN, Royal Canin's is Gastrointestinal something-or-other. Dogs that don't like the Hill's often do like Purina's. If your vet doesn't have them, she ought to know a local vet who does.
