We lost our Angel Jack very similarly and its beyond heartbreaking to have them pass in your arms. Again, so very sorry. It was probably a burst aneurysm or or an undetected fracture in a neck vertebra; none of which you could be blamed for in any way, nor do anything about. But what a wonderful time she had with you... it's quality, not quantity that always matters most. Let those healing tears of grieving flow freely now and one day, when you're ready, teach all that you learned from her to your next ex-racer; that way lies gratitude for sharing a life and certain hope of continuity. Please know that I have many greyhounds at the bridge including one that suddenly went down paralyzed as what happened to Moonshine. They have taught me one of the most important lessons of my life and it is that you must understand there was nothing anybody could do to prevent it. It was just her time. If it wouldn't have happened that way then it would have happened another way. And in time I hope you learn the truth of how she WILL be with you ALWAYS for it will bring you great peace. Love is energy- the most powerful force in the universe and it cannot be destroyed-not even by death. Please be open minded as Moonshine may send you some signs to let you know all is well-she may even pick another hound for you. You will know if it is from her because you will recognize her energy-her spirit-which is the real Moonshine that you love. Some signs can be quite profound and moving. And BTW thats another thing my bridge angels taught me- the dog picks you not vice versa. As someone, who hasn't cried or really understood how to grieve properly in over 10 years this process has been completely foreign to me, but the support you, my coworkers, and family has provided has really helped my wife and me. We have contacted the same adoption group that we adopted Moonie from, and will be going this weekend. My wife and I know it sounds crazy, but something had us both tell each other that we should start looking again almost simultaneously without us talking to each other about it over the course of the day. I'm not someone who has strong views on the afterlife, but I feel like it was the memory of Moonshine letting us know that the only way to truly honor her memory and continue healing is to find another baby who needs a home and transfer that love we were showering her with to another grey. Maybe we're both crazy doing this so soon, but to us this is the first thing that has made complete sense in the past few days. I'll be back with an introduction of a new grey to the family as soon as the pup that Moonshine picks finds his or her way into our home. Thanks everyone.
