Either way, your heart shatters. To have multiple losses so close together is just beyond not fair. You were meant to "trip" on Potato so that she could be loved when she needed you most. You're the best, and she knew it and loved you so. I am just so very sorry she couldn't have stayed with you longer. She was incredibly lucky to have spent the last part of her life with you, being cared for properly and thoroughly loved and adored. Alas, as Allen's spirit has not returned to move my shoes about the house, neither has Potato moved my socks to deposit them in the hall. I picked up Potato's ashes today and told the vet tech at the front desk this: One day when Potato was at my other favorite vet's office (we to back and forth depending on availability and both vets are ok with it), 2 techs came out to call patients back. Would you believe the 2 other dogs (with different owners) were named Onion and Pork Chop. The whole lobby was laughing when I said, "Well, we have a Potato here too."
