NeylasMom Posted November 7, 2021 Share Posted November 7, 2021 I've never been able to follow through on writing a remembrance post before so this is really just things that came out of my head in the moment, but I gathered some photos that I hope capture her personality as much as such a joyful spirit can be captured in still photos. https://photos.app.goo.gl/YVdZ2PQRPoi14Nvt5 Violet was the dog who brought joy back into my life after I lost Neyla, my first greyhound. I had Zuri at the time and he was my rock, but Violet was so silly and playful and social. She had me in stitches from the day she walked through our door and it was true until the day I said goodbye. There was never a sweeter, sillier girl. She loved everyone she met, people and dogs, and especially loved playing with and snuggling her sister Skye. She was also so affectionate with me. She would lay against me in bed with her head and neck draped over mine. If I was petting her and stopped, she would roll around on her back and paw her face or me. She did crazy spins and zoomies when she played, and she did NOT get the memo that greyhounds don't bark. She also didn't get the greyhounds have bare bellies and butts memo. She had an amazing coat, with super soft fur on her neck and ears, and the furriest belly and butt with the cutest tufts and swirls of fur. And her eyes...her eyes could stare into the depths of your soul conveying her desire for whatever it was she wanted. Usually it was petting, or dinner. She was an amazing travel companion. We spent many nights together in strange places, traveling for the holidays, for academies at Peaceable Paws, on cabin and camping trips, and on trips to Dewey and Grapehounds and she always walked in like it was home. After Zuri passed away she became my winery dog and we would travel together to the Finger Lakes every year where she was happy to follow me from place to place, sniffing butts or relaxing on her mat. She was a total lemon in the health department, but she tolerated anything I needed to do to help her. She was so gentle and tolerant. As she got older, she started to lose her hearing and so she followed me everywhere, even if I was just going to the bathroom. She also got especially sassy and demanding about things like meals and walks, and would let me know if I had fallen behind with more barking. When I think about the unconditional love of a dog, Violet exemplifies that more than any other dog I've known. You wrote that everywhere was home to her, but how much she must have loved the move to house with the big yard and the many places to sun and sleep and explore.
