Guest skipperannie22
Simply Cindy was her given name - she never raced and we humans called her Cindy. She was 8.5 years old. She was out running and playing in the backyard and she dropped dead last Friday 2/3 at 2pm right in front of me. We rushed her to a vet which is very close, but despite their efforts her heart never started again. I have never ever heard of a greyhound, or any dog, just dropping to dead like this. not that it would have mattered, but my mind is seriously having trouble processing that one second she was smiling as she ran past me and the next she was dead in front of me. No apparent health issues - we had her in to the vet for a physical and teeth cleaning late last September and all was well. I guess it doesn't matter why or what happened at this point, because it won't bring my silly little girl back. I wrote this yesterday morning to help remember all the little things I know I'll soon forget. I cried all the way through this and the rest of the day, but it helped I think. I miss her. I miss everything about her. we had a tight bond, after all we’ve been co-workers now 24/7 for the last year and a half. She knew me and I knew her. I miss reassuring her and making her world safe. I miss being able to touch her ear or face, letting her know its ok. I miss hearing her groan when I found that perfect spot on her neck to scratch and I miss laughing when she did her butt dance. I miss her very dramatic sighs, always perfectly timed with something her humans were doing. I miss rubbing her neck after she ate and celebrating her big burb with her. I miss scratching the inside of her ears, oh how she loved that. I miss playing drums on her and seeing her paw for more when I stopped. I miss seeing her excitement when a new squeaker toy came into the house, still in the bag, she knew it was there and had it out of the bag and straight to her kennel. I miss hearing her make her bed, whether in the kennel or cabin. I miss covering her up and giving her warmth on a cold winters night. I miss talking her into going outside, that it was safe and I’m right there with her. I miss putting her coat on and I miss seeing her in the backyard. I miss sharing my yogurt with her. I miss our walks up the street, oh how I miss those right now. I miss her coming into my office about 10x a day wanting to go out. I miss her putting her head on my lap while I worked. I miss reassuring her when we were outside that it was ok when the wind blew. I miss sprinting with her to the front door when she’d had enough of being brave and just wanted back inside. I miss hearing her run upstairs to play, up and down the stairs or back and forth on the bridge. I miss playing hide and seek with her. I miss her love and loyalty. I miss seeing her across the yard – just making eye contact and reassuring both of us she was ok. I miss seeing her smile and grin with that grey face. I miss seeing that grey face in the front window watching me as I come back from a run. I hope she’s found a safe place. I miss my little girl. Thursday will be 2 months for me and I lost my girl in an accident. As with you, it was so fast I too was not prepared because I had a healthy, fine, dog then 2 hours I had no dog. I still weep when I see a picture. It is hard to wrap our heads around this.........it was so fast. My heart is breaking for breaking for you to, especially your pup was really young in that respect. Bless you.

queenwinniesmom
Your grief and emptiness and disbelief are overwhelming, and it's no wonder. That horrible, unthinkable suddenness adds another layer to the pain of your loss. Such a lovely tribute---you helped us to know what a wonderful dog your Cindy was, and it's clear that the love and understanding between you were very deep. I hope in the writing, it helped just a bit to share your sweet lady with us. We're sharing your sadness as well, and sending much sympathy.
