JackieDog Posted April 14, 2014 Share Posted April 14, 2014 I don't have much to say...Her thirteenth birthday is the day after tomorrow and a month ago I thought we were home free and we'd have a teenager. On April first we noticed a bump, hard as a rock and very tender...and got her X-rays--totally consistent with osteo. They had to give her a little sedation for the films to get the angles to see it properly (it was on her shoulder blade) and while woozy they tried an aspiration. It wasn't enough to say 'it's osteo' but it certainly wasn't an abscess and what they saw had malignant features. She's been having trouble with her hind end and given the location, her age and how unsteady she already was, well, comfort care was the choice. Yesterday I came home from work (I leave town Friday night and come back Sunday night every other week) and she tried so hard to greet me at the door. She almost fell down--her back end was even weaker because she'd been limping much more just over the weekend. The lump has tripled in size almost in 2 weeks. This morning she just looked at me and was done. She couldn't get comfy on her bed and was just too tired out. I always said I'd rather let her go a day early than a day late... but I'm pretty sure it was just the right day. I'm glad I made it home and I am super glad we have a wonderful vet office. Our regular vet doesn't work Mondays so her partner came to our house in the middle of the morning and let her go to sleep on her own bed without an awful car ride. sabrina Posted April 14, 2014 Share Posted April 14, 2014 I am sorry that your Jackie wont be able to celebrate her 13th birthday in the fur & with you. With my Sabrina there was a spot on her spleen. THey didnt think it was cancer & if necessary she could live without her spleen. I remember how relieved I was . I said to her well we dodged that bullet. 2 weeks later the limp started & that was osteo. She was gone in another 2 weeks.
