Willbegforgrapes Aka Monty

It's been less then 2 weeks since a hound that has never been sick or injured a day in his life showed any signs there was something wrong and now he's gone. Just like that!

He walked into my house like he owned the place settled right in and never once looked back.

meandmonty.jpg

There are those that say he was my second foster failure but he wasn't. I asked for him to come here and said right up front he wasn't going anywhere.

Monty was one of the many hounds that came to NC from the closing of the Plainfield CT. track. It was an on line love affair. I loved him the moment i saw him. A friend had gone to GFNC to adopt one of the Orange Co. greys that had recently been rescued and while she was there she met Will and took pictures and bought them to me and told me what a sweetheart he was, I already knew that, how could he not be. This only made me want him more. We had Bill and Sheana and had not really been looking for a third but he became an obsession. i had to have him. Anyway he got here and the rest is history.

First things first. He would not answer to Will and I already had a Bill, so the name had to change. I spent three days throwing different names at him looking for a reaction or something that fit. One afternoon DH and DS were laying on the floor with him in between them tossing around several names and suddenly DS started to quote the Bridge of Death scene from Monty Python's Holy Grail. Peter called "WHAT IS YOUR NAME?" He just stared blankly at him, he must have been thinking what a nut job! From the other side of the room I giggled and shouted "MONTY!" He looked dead at me. I said Monty it is and so it was.

You know that greyhound we all describe to potential adopters at M&Gs, that mythical creature that doesn't shed, never barks or makes a sound? It requires very little maintenance and exercise, do you know the one I'm talking about? Those of us that know the breed giggle and say amongst ourselves they all have one or more of those traits but none of them have all of them? Well I am here to tell you it is not a creature of myth but of flesh and blood. It's name is Monty. seriously! He didn't shed! Which is fine. The rest of the gang more then made up for him in the shedding department.

Monty took retirement seriously. We quickly began to refer to him as our slug. Upside down with all four feet in the air was his favorite position. He was awake for all the important things. To eat. To take care of business... yup that's about it. AHHHHH but there's more.

It's the quiet ones, the ones you least expect that you really need to keep an eye on.

He had his moments.

He was a notorious trash diver.

Picture615.jpg

I haven't kept my trash there for a long time. Maybe I can return it now.

Paper!! Empty TP rolls were his favorite. He also had no problem helping you remove the TP so he could have the empty cardboard tube.

DSC02926.jpg

I can honestly say that in THIS particular instance he was innocent. He had been framed by Ginny. He usually only destryed one roll at a time. Ginny got a hold of an entire package. Hey maybe now I can put my TP back in the TP holder and not on the self!

Empty Christmas wrapping tubes were the Holy Grail!

Paper was only trumped by digging.

Monty was a creature of comfort and he had no shame.

No place was to small.

DSC03733.jpg

He was an excellent BBQer. "I think that's done now."

DSC02435.jpg

BEGGER! Let us not forget the begging. He could stare at you and drown in a pool of his own drool better then any hound I've ever known and if you thought he was sleeping and ignoring you, nothing could be further from the truth. Don't turn your back on the food or when you turn back around the food will be gone and he's back on his bed licking his lips, sleeping the sleep of the totally innocent. This past spring DD came down with her husband and our grandson Connor who got to meet the gang for the first time. BABY"S!!! What a treat indeed!

1681024x768_zps6125541e.jpg

He was there for clean up duty and to help finish whatever Connor didn't want. Can't let good food go to waste you know.

Vincent and Julius aka Monty and Huey. My Twins.

Parades! let me show you what Monty thought about parades.

S3010155.jpg

"Hey! There's roadkill in the middle of the parade people!"

As I said before Monty took retirement seriously. His idea of a walk was "Put a leash on me. Take me to the car. Drive me around the block. I'm good. Thanks." Once at a GFNC event an animal communicator told me Monty wanted to be pack leader. I was polite and did not laugh at her. There was not an ambitious bone in his body.

Monty was quite the party animal. Check this out. Birthday's were rough.

You know that hound in your pack that is always in the background, never pushy, waits patiently and quietly? It's amazing the impact they can have on your life and the incredibly large empty black hole they leave when they are gone.

My sweet sweet Monty. How did I find so much to say about someone so unassuming? You made a bigger impact then I thought.

Good night baby. Sleep tight. Momma loves and misses you so much.

I opened the Rainbow Land players in the other forum and saw the post about Monty added just a few minutes ago and my heart sank. I feared looking in Rememberance. And here he is.

You painted a vivid picture of his life. It was wonderful.

Now he can have all the left legs that Bill doesn't eat at the Bridge.
