  1. i usually buy chicken hearts, necks, and gizzards from regular supermarkets, but i'm more concerned about the ground mixes i get up here in Massapequa that come with green tripe already mixed in... it is strictly sold as dog food, not human grade... i was hoping to find similar supplier down there... we don't buy the freeze-dried raw from pet stores...
  2. Hi y'all. We are moving to south Florida, specifically W Boca. Does anyone buy raw dog food in this vicinity? I would love to buy from a trusted supplier. Actually, have the same question about grey savvy vet in the same area. Any referrals?
  3. My grey is also with 24PetWatch. His premium went up 12% the first year (2018), and 22% this year. My beagle/basset mix is with FIGO Pet Insurance. His premium went up 49% last year. I don't know what it will go up when it renews in Oct this year.. but i like this company much better than 24PetWatch.
  4. Has anyone ever heard of saltwater poisoning? I had no idea... check out this article and video... devastating... https://blog.theanimalrescuesite.greatergood.com/gfl-dog-saltwater-poisoning/

  7. I broke that rule too (a beagle/basset former hunting dog from GA)... though, next time it's back to houndies, fur sure...
  8. using the VOICE OF GOD, scream at the oncoming dog: "NO!! HEEEEYYYYY!!! STOP!!!!" make sure he knows you will defend yourself and your pup, and will not allow him to get anywhere near the two of you... I HATE loose dogs... i don't care how "friendly" they are!
  9. Adequan shots and acupuncture helped my 13 y/o girl for about 8 months...
  10. watch PET FOOLED on Netflix... it might open your eyes to the pet food industry... and change what you feed them... in effect, making your pup greytful and healthier...
  11. check out this article of a woman who made a dummy to keep her SA pup company... it worked! this is another option to consider among the others out there... this is the second time i've see the dummy as company for SA pups, and it seems to help a lot https://www.thedodo.com/close-to-home/woman-makes-dummy-of-herself-for-anxious-dog
  12. the GSD is NOT FAT! but the greyhounds sure are LONELY!
  13. oh no... you mean hunters have the heart for a pet, but not for the "hunting dogs?" so sad
  14. this german shep is obviously over the moon to see his human again.... https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/animals/dog-cries-out-in-happiness-after-being-apart-from-owner-for-months/vi-BBVfpCx but i am concerned about the greyhounds in the outdoor kennel to the left? they don't belong outside, and this looks like a permanent kennel... there is a hole cut out of some wood, for the door... looks like it takes place in UK... does someone have any idea what that is about?
  15. i thought it was impossible to adopt an intact houndie ... don't they all come fixed when adopted out?
  16. why didn't i think to google before????????????????? just found this store literally around the corner from my house.... i;m going to try them out tonite.... https://www.thek9shop.com/
  17. Looking for a raw food provider in the Metro NY / Long Island area.... someone like MyPetCarnivore.com but that is in the LOWER NY area... any suggestions? I have been to Armellino's in Melville, and Martin's in Glen Cove, but am wondering if there is anything else out there... I love the GREEN Tripe MyPetCarnivore.com offers, but these locals don't offer that... and i don't want to spend $50-$100 on shipping just to get some tripe...
  18. thank you for adopting a senior cat he is stunning!!! i'm in love.... and yes, i was expecting a greyhound brother for Sweep, but i approve of Momo
  19. try it raw.... just mix with kibble.... i bet he would LOVE it raw too
  20. Bunny of Tales & Tails, passed away in December... i had followed her adventures for so many years... and i still cry when i realize she is gone... even though her sissy Flattery is still around... https://talesandtails.com/once-upon-a-time/?fbclid=IwAR0BMRbfVUClg4a8-pkyX0-OZrbRn8_06ffK-3vF6Z4tbuncrQYlfC_RVmM
  21. I used to live in NW NJ... now on Long Island. I don't know of any NE rescue that can adopt out dogs with dentals... it costs MINIMUM $1,000 for a dental in these areas... I got 3 of my 4 greys from south Jersey rescue... pretty sure they had worms, and one was infested with ticks.... spent over an hour pulling over 50 ticks out of all 4 paws her first day home... they get them from the track, or bounces from other homes, and house them until they find their next homes... no money for extras... just the necessary spay/neuter if not done already...
  22. I have my beagle/basset hound mix insured with Figo... I love how fast they process my claims... the premium increased by 50% this year, from last year... but the same thing will happen with any other insurance carrier... as the animal ages, the premium goes up quite a bit... and as they catch up with the rest of the market, the price increases significantly from year to year...
  23. that's not true of any insurance carrier. You renew every year. they cannot deny a condition the second year. But if you drop the insurance carrier and go elsewhere, yes it becomes a preexisting condition. the key is to stay with one insurance carrier. do not switch around.
  24. My boy was a chow hound for the first 6-9 months. Once he understood he wasn't going to starve to death, and leveled out his weight (as he was underweight in the beginning), he calmed down and stopped eating when he was full, even walking away from the food bowl... if you had told me he would EVER walk away, or stop eating, in those first 6-9 months, i would have told you you were crazy, but it happened... some days now, 4 yrs later, i have to beg him to eat... he's 85 lbs, the perfect weight for him, and he stops when he's full... it may happen to yours as well... in due time...
  25. my beagle/basset mix had kennel cough when i first adopted him. it was 3 weeks of PURE HELL!!!!! Constant coughing, nonstop.... ugly, white foam puddles everywhere... really horrible to live thru... unless your lurcher is experiencing CONSTANT coughing, it is not kennel cough... google kennel cough videos and you will see what i'm referring to... i don't wish that on my worst enemy... it is truly heartbreaking to watch and not be able to do anything to help...
