I went with lots of scatter rugs for my girl that had traction issues when she first came to us. I got them from Costco for around $12 each. I looked at other options, just in case the rugs didn't work but Trixie did get used to our flooring. Now I'm looking at this again as my old man Galen (almost 12) is starting to show some hind end weakness and his back feet are a little slippy on the non-carpeted surfaces we have. rycezmom - what a cutie! The toddler hound rules are too funny. I noticed that Husker Magic got her 99th career win last night (May 6). Yay! Watched the replay to see her beautiful win against a younger field of dogs. Need My Money Now continues to do well, but Seldom Told has not raced since 2/26? He seemed to be smoking hot all of February... 5 of my girl's 7 offspring are racing now. Quick Shot is still at Daytona, MRL Overpaid & MRL Old Hippie are at Orange Park, and MRL Oh Jesse and MRL Outbound are at Southland. I enjoy watching them, no matter how well they run. (Sometimes it is "not so well".) It is pretty cool to be able to see Trixie's pups out there, starting their careers. Roo - I am excited for you to get to see Pizza Joint's offspring run when they get to that stage late next year. So great that you got a text from her owner!

Guess she's going to have to learn how to position herself better to not get cut off? She does look like she has heart and loves to run. Thank you for the explanation about left-lead/right-lead. I didn't know that before you explained. The slo-mo replay is helpful for seeing it. When we were watching the results, we saw the letters "SCR" by her name. Does that mean scratch? Just curious.

Waiting to watch Quick Shot in race 7 tonight at Daytona in grade C. I found that one of her littermates (Mrl Overpaid) was in a schooling race at Orange Park on Thursday (1/21) and is scheduled next for Monday (1/25). Should be fun to follow her too. The Daytona 550 should be an exciting race tonight with both Seldom Told and Need My MoneyNow racing. I've been watching the commentary on the live stream in between races and it is interesting to hear the viewpoints. Our first two adopted greys had no offspring, so I never paid much attention to the racing world. Now with our Trixie having a potential of 7 racers starting their careers now, it has sparked my curiosity. I'm really thankful that this thread is here, still going after so many years! I have learned so much already - so much more to learn though. Thank you Nancy and Dick!!!

What a comeback for QS in the stretch! She looks so much like her momma - coloring and compact body shape and movement - it is like getting to see what Trixie would have looked like at Quick Shot's age. So fun for me to see! Super exciting that she won even with that bad start - hoping she will learn quickly. Is there any way to find out what their call name is? I suppose trying to contact the trainer is the best way?

Quick Shot is running this afternoon in race 11, post 5 at Daytona. Hope she does better today than Saturday! They are about to start race 7, so I am guessing she'll be running in about an hour.

True of people too, in the race of "life". Thanks for the commentary on Quick Shot's performance. I can't wait to see how her career goes. And hopefully some of her littermates will start racing soon too. (Quick Draw Fire, Quick Power, MRL Oh Jesse, MRL Old Hippie, MRL Outbound, & MRL Overpaid - in case anyone recognizes those names)

Thanks for that info, Dick. She took third but it looked like she got caught at the first turn when she and the 2 and the 6 got jammed up and she lost position. It looked like she went to last place and then made up a lot of ground to take third in the end, so with some experience she may do better at judging how to avoid "traffic jams" with others? It was exciting to watch. When she fell to the back of the field, my heart sank and didn't suspect she would make the gains she did by the end. I don't know all the lingo yet, so please bear with me if I don't describe something correctly. For the others in her litter, I have them in my virtual kennel on trackinfo. Is that the best way to keep up with them for now? If any of them flunk out of racing, there might be a spot on the couch here in Texas...

I have lurked on this thread for a while now, but now it's time to de-lurk! We adopted Trixie (Most Aggressive) in 2015. She had a decent racing career (thank you, Dick, for the analysis in the other GT thread!) and then had one litter in July 2014. GALT (Greyhound Adoption League of Texas) got her in May 2015 and we failed our first fostering attempt. She is a funny little girl (61 lbs) who at 5.5 yrs old keeps us in stitches. So... I've been watching greyhound-data and trackinfo since late summer to see if her puppies were going to show up at any of the tracks. All seven (2 males, 5 females) are in the databases, but only one has any races so far. Quick Shot won her first maiden race on Jan 12 at Daytona, if I am reading the info correctly. She is racing today in race 5 grade D. I'm watching Daytona's live streaming right now. Race 4 is just about to start, so just another 15 minutes or so until her race will start (I think). Anyway, I'm so excited to watch Quick Shot run. Thanks for keeping this thread going.

Welcome to both you & Kit! Kit is gorgeous - congratulations on her recent adoption. Thanks for sharing pictures of her. We adopted our first two greys when they were between 3 & 4 years old back in 2006. It is such a fun age to adopt them and watch their personalities unfold! They did get into quite a bit of trouble at first and kept us on our toes. Such great memories - take lots of pics because the time just flies. Now we've got an "older gentleman"(11 yrs old) & a 5 year old foster girl. They say to GreyTalk from Texas.

Dick - thank you for the analysis of Gable Teletubbie. He is a total doll and to learn he was so successful in his racing career is interesting as providers of the forever couch. We suspected he must have been a pretty good racer from the info we can see on GD - making sense of the numbers and the comments is a little intimidating for pet owners sometimes so thank you so much for breaking it down for us! I'll post pictures and copy on the other thread you referenced after our adoption of him is finalized later this week. Thanks for letting us know how to do that and being willing to make the pet updates for all of us GTers. ~ Jennifer

We had something similar happen with Chase back in the summer. Out of the blue, he did something that ripped a nail but we never determined what exactly he did. The nail didn't rip off completely but our vet removed the nail and quick when I took him in because it was clear that it was too far gone to save. We don't have any rugs with loopy fibers, but we do have some thresholds that he could have banged into with the toe nail. I was skeptical that the incident was a one time incident because I had read about SLO here on GT and I thought it looked like his nail and quick were separating. I mentioned it to my vet, but he really thought it was an isolated incident. When I called back the next week with a different toe nail separating and an active infection in that toe plus other nails looking like they were starting to separate, he started to agree that SLO might be what Chase has. He still wanted to rule out a fungal infection, but agreed that I could start the regimen I found on Dr. Stack's website of supplements (omega-3, vitamin e, & niacinamide). Fungal culture came back negative. Initially most of his nails had some separation but he didn't lose all of them thankfully. It appeared to me that he was in some discomfort due to pressure caused by blood/fluid building up between the nail & quick. There was a lot of "Mommy & Chase time" for a while with multiple daily foot soaks and inspections. Plus I was rinsing his feet after every potty trip outside to try to head off any bacteria that might have been thinking about setting up shop in his toes! He was not thrilled but he did get used to it. The supplement routine seems to be improving the condition of his nails. They are growing back slowly and look a little funky but not too bad. I hope Diana's issue is just a random incident but I thought maybe you could keep SLO in the back of your mind. She probably just did something odd, like tripping over a threshold or getting stuck in a rug as you suspect. Give her some hugs & ear scritches from us!

You need to have your photos uploaded somewhere on the internet such as flickr or photobucket or facebook. I use photobucket and haven't had issues yet but some people have posted regarding issues with using it. Sometimes mobile devices like ipads give people fits when trying to post pictures. I usually go to a desktop computer when I want to post pics. Just makes it easier for me although you may have no problems. Good luck - although I'm not so sure about wanting to see this blue-green sludge now that I've given you the instructions for posting a pic!

Welcome from another DFW Texan! Both of my greys came from GALT too. They are much older than your beautiful Pepper. Best dogs who have ever owned me! This is a greyt forum. Lots of info & friends to be made. Someone has almost always seen or experienced whatever you might encounter with your new grey!

Glad to hear Morty is home & doing well. Both of mine are 11+ yrs old and I am NOT looking forward to their next dentals. I am always on pins & needles until I get the call that they are done & I can come get them. My vet does Dental health month discount in Sept & Feb. Every little bit helps! Hope he starts to eat better for you!!
