djsgreys Posted November 19, 2011 Share Posted November 19, 2011 How can things happen so fast? Just three weeks ago we met Mindy for the first time, a bounce due to a divorce. We fell in love the moment we met her, but knowing our house was full, introduced her to a really nice young couple that had been waiting a while for the perfect hound. It took them only a few minutes to see how special this 8 year old was and to make their decision. Mindy was tri-podding, even after removal of a corn that we thought was the source of her pain. X-rays showed a loss of bone density in the toe - possibly osteo, possibly from a crush injury years ago. So we decided to have the toe removed. She came through the surgery well and within days was using the paw again. All was going as planned. Then last Saturday, she stopped eating and developed explosive diarrhea. A trip to the vet on Monday was of little help, and the little food we could force down quickly came back out. By yesterday she had lost 12 pounds. We had her back to the vet, they kept her on fluids throughout the day and she even ate 1/2 can of food. We brought her home last night but despite the injection to control vomitting, nothing would stay down. This morning was the morning she was supposed to go home to start her new life with her new family Instead this morning she left for the bridge, cradled in the loving arms of her foster daddy, John.
