  16. Devastated would not be too strong a word for how I’m feeling about Gary’s passing on January 26 at the age of 12 years and 8 months of age. Recognizing what had been a gradual but definite progression of arthritis and LS led me to book an appointment with the vet for a full senior assessment on Friday - not unexpectedly this led to an understanding that this would be progressive and that we’d have a decision to make in the not too distant future. Completely unexpectedly, 24 hours later this moved to complete loss of the use of his back legs as well as possible circulatory issues on Saturday and we decided to let him go on what was his 10th Gotcha Day. I have never been without dogs in my adult life, and they were all special, but Gary is truly my heart dog. He charmed me from the moment I saw him - he came out of his crate to a fence and proceeded to bend his nose against it and stare me down. In ten years he was always a gentleman, my confidante, my jester and my psychiatrist - he supported me through some of the most difficult times in my life. He loved nothing better than cuddling on the bed, preferably with most of the covers, and shared my breakfast every single morning. He was absolutely spotlessly clean - he was never Unruly in the house and I realized yesterday that he had managed to get through the full 10 years without one single bath! Gary was a great ambassador for greyhounds, and always attracted compliments for his gracefulness, friendliness and shining black coat. But Gary’s real talent was his sensitivity - he always knew my mood, and could just absorb any stress, sadness or frustration through touch. I will never forget his eyes, his scent and how soft his fur was. I will always be richer for having him in my life, but my heart will aways be a bit emptier now that he’s gone. I hope I can see him again someday and that in the meantime he’s running with Mrz. Molly. I love you Gary.

  19. So sorry to hear - he sounds like a wonderful boy!
  20. I won't be much help - vet said glucosamine isn't that effective, but highly recommended a green mussel powder called Sasha's Blend - swears that the human version worked wonders for her. Except it smells like green mussels - lots of them - and Gary hates it! I've taken to mixing it into liver or cat food. It does seem to help him.
