  1. Joy and I missed last year but we'll be there this year. We're staying at the Quality Inn, Battlefield. I don't have the ideal room but it's OK. I'm hoping to see Joy run in the Blur of Fur after my non-blur 5K that morning. We're coming in on Thursday some time depending on if I can leave work early on Thursday and going home on Monday so we can do more on Sunday.
  2. I don't think I saw it suggested that maybe your adoption group will know which dogs are barkers. Joy barks sometimes and it's pretty deep.
  3. My bridge angel, Magic, had the same thing.
  4. Ducky, Could you add Hickory, the Scottish Deerhound who won Best in Show at Westminster in 2011.
  5. not Twiggy. I met her a couple of years ago at GIG. She was so sweet.
  6. Cindy, I sent you a PM with a place suggested by someone on a Facebook group with members in Gettysburg and the immediate area. It's in Adams County.
  7. Joy got chicken feet for her Gotcha Day. I forgot to put them in the refrigerator and guess who ate the whole package? I wasn't worried about her eating the whole package. She didn't get supper though and she didn't seem to care. I guess the package was enough.
  8. Did your group mention whether she is OK with small animals? If the group didn't tell you how she is with small dogs, just watch her when she meets a small dog or sees a small critter on walks. Just be careful if a small off-leash dog or one on a flexi-lead runs up to her If a small dog runs up to Joy, I tell them she's not good with small dogs. Sometimes the person even pays attention to me. When she sees other dogs, does she pull? If so, you might want to consider a "no-pull" harness.
  9. One thing about girls. I'm not sure if this is true at all racing/adoption kennels but the girls tend to be in the top crates if there are 2 tiers of crates. I would think girls are better at jumping. Magic (my boy) never jumped up on counters, tables, etc. Joy has. I've heard males are more affectionate. Magic rarely kissed me. Joy does it more often. Both like to snuggle with me.
  10. Run free sweet Beatrix. Laura and Encarna from Joy and me. I'm glad I got to meet Beatrix at GIG this year.
  11. Joy has gotten 3 doves. The 3rd one she actually ate right in front of me. After my initial horror, I realized her ancestors probably ate worse. We see lots of birds on our walks--mostly robins, sparrows, and blackbirds. She barely pays any attention to them. We see the occasional dove but she ignores them.
  12. Joy's 4th birthday and 2nd Gotcha Day are coming up in around 2 weeks. My local grocery store has chicken feet. I know I shouldn't cook them but are they OK to give raw? The only time I had chicken feet for my dog was a few years ago and they were freeze dried. Thanks. Also, don't tell Joy that I'm thinking about getting her chicken feet.
  13. I was a little concerned when Joy and I moved to Philadelphia. She was used to having trucks, sirens, etc in our old home but not a few feet from her. Busses made her a little nervous but she adapted well and is doing fine in the city.
  14. I'm so sad to read this. She looked so good at GIG.
  15. to you Tracy. Stan was a sweet boy. He helped me heal after losing Magic and may have had a small paw in my adopting Joy.
  16. Ducky, could you add Jimmie who was a return at almost 14 due her owner's failing health. She was ultimately diagnosed with osteo and then adopted by a very loving person, who I'll introduce you to at GIG if I get an opportunity. Thanks.
  17. A rescue dog named Iggy was killed during the terror attack in Stockholm. Could he be added please?
  18. I'm staying at the Quality Inn. Joy has been quite mischievous lately especially where food is concerned. She has also had issues with other dogs particularly if I'm around. If anyone is interested in taking a chance with Joy and me, feel free to pm me.
  19. Joy and I will be in from Thursday through Sunday.
  20. Did you check with the GIG committee to see if they can put out the word for volunteers to assist vendors with loading and unloading? People come in a day or 2 early and some might be willing to help set up. Others may not feel like going back to their hotel between the end of vending and the party and might be willing to assist with breakdown.
  21. Joy can walk slowly when she wants to. She'll be 4 in May.
