4My2Greys
Robin I want you to know that I have been thinking of you and Phene since I read about his diagnosis. I'm always at a loss for what to say to people when this happens. How many ways can one say "I'm sorry for the crappy news you just received" and someone know it comes from your heart . robinw
Thanks, all. Phene is having a great day! He's eating like a piggie and just led the way on our walk.He even lifted his left leg while balancing on his bad one a few times There have been some moments where I thought it was time to send him to the bridge, but they they've been very brief. He's currently taking Metacam for a 25 kg dog once a day and 12mg of Tramadol three times a day. We also have Tramadol 40 mg pills but haven't needed to use them. Robin - Just seeing this now. Charlies_Dad
Robin, glad to read Phene is having a good day. No experience with acupuncture and osteo. There will be ups & downs as you take this journey with Phene. Just try to keep in mind this will happen so a bad day doesn't necessarily mean there will not be more good days still ahead. NeylasMom
I'm taking him in for acupuncture next week. Does anybody have experience with acupuncture and osteo? I'm hoping it will help manage his pain. I got very mixed info about acunpunture and osteo. Some of the practitioners I spoke with believed it can accelerate the growth of the cancer and would not even do it, while others did not. In the end, the people who wouldn't do it scared me enough that I decided against it. I did do a couple of chiropractic adjustments, which I believe may have helped some just since her body was probably a bit out of whack not fully weight bearing all of the time on that front leg. Sorry, I know that's probably not much help. Remolacha
I hope Phene had a good day today. My only experience with acupuncture and osteo was the vet I took Sugar to for acupuncture was primarily an oncologist who learned acupuncture to help her cancer patients. She also took some non-cancer acupuncture patients, which Sugar was lucky enough to be one.
Guest asianpeanut
Hi Robin, I used to be an acupuncturist for people but did veterinary acupuncture for about a year too. I didn't treat any osteo or cancer so can't testify about that firsthand, but in people there is sometimes the concern that it will promote the spread, but that is usually more likely when you needle directly around the site. I don't think it poses a major risk and should help. I posted more about this on my post too, but I would highly recommend Chinese herbs more than anything. I recently put Baker on a Traditional Chinese medicine formula that one of my previous Chinese medicine professors wrote for me. He is an amazing doctor and actually runs a Chinese medicine oncology clinic in Los Angeles. Writing a Chinese herbal formula is a real art and he is among the best. An MD from China and a Chinese medicine doctor. Baker is doing a lot better on the herbs! I was worried he was going downhill fast too, but he is doing quite well at the moment. If you want his info let me know. And for anyone else who is reading this, he is a great resource for all types of healthy issues. I am so sorry again to hear that poor Phene isn't doing well:(. You are definately in my prayers and thoughts! Hugs! Jennifer

brandimom
Robin, just checking in on you Phene. I know Brandi's holistic vet does chiro/acupuncture on pets with cancer but no personal experience at this end. Brandi got regular acupuncture/chiro every month for 7 years but her medical condition was different than what Phene is facing. So glad Phene had a good day the other day. Prayers and hugs continue to come from our paws to the two of you.
