So...

In addition to snapping a quick xray of Andi's leg to check the status of healing (a-ok, no issues, everything looks great, will forward to her surgeon to double check), I asked our vet to check her eyes.  She has trouble finding little treats outside - low contrast environment on our deck or the ground - even though she can catch thrown ones, and find them on the (white) kitchen floor.  Apparently, her pupils are not constricting properly when exposed to light.  They are staying dilated even when a very bright light is shined in them.  Which is a classic sign of early PRA.  So we now have an appointment scheduled in two weeks with an eye specialist to see what's what and if there's anything to be done.  It's very early and there are no other clinical symptoms, and she didn't see anything else like cataracts or glaucoma.  Andi's not in any pain at all, and she still sees well enough to chase squirrels and cats.  I haven't dealt with any eye issues before, and I haven't started my obsessive research!  We're just going to see what the eye doctor says and go from there.

Noffing happened today. A man came to change sum windows in da house afore winter. Momma-bear askid ifn he was askeered obs dogs and he sayd no. So we sayd hello den wentid back to bed while he werked. When he wuz finished, momma-bear wuz paying and he askid : Are dey always lyke dat?

We will be in Cleveland today and this morning we are visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  This afternoon we are taking an excursion to the ritzy section of Shaker Heights.

i think I forgot to mention that Amanda said Cherry broke a nail on one of her rear feet - blood everywhere!  But nothing that some styptic powder, gauze and vet wrap couldn’t fix.  She was launching after a squirrel in the backyard!

Ivy is still having an occasional hunger strike.   Sigh.

No, dear.  That was just Auntie being silly.  I'm still agonizing over filling them in with powder.

Charlie, that's what Jupiter was like when the phone repair guy was here yesterday.

Century Link said the tech would call one hour before showing up.  Nope.  We were still downtown while Richard was having his MRI (small lesion on the pancreas they're watching).  Fortunately, he was mostly done.  Then, we lit out of there as fast as he could hobble and I dropped him at the house.  I was 5 minutes into tax-free dog food shopping when I got another text that the tech was here.  That was 15 minutes warning.  Had the guy been earlier, we wouldn't have been here and would have been charge $99.  Supposedly, we had an hour's warning and our file should have contained a note that R was having a medical procedure.  Either way, the diagnosis was done. The problem was "up the line" and should be resolved in a few day. 

I had truly given up ironing until I started quilting.  Now, I have a fancy cordless iron and it's... tolerable.  But, for my lovely big skirted dresses, I'll willing to do some pressing.

Andi, I"m glad your momma is right on things and can catch something in its early stages.

   Andi.   The only eye issue I’ve dealt with was Pannus in Nigel. Easy Peasy drops. 

The former Sheet Shack lady used to iron all the pillow cases and table cloths      I always, always make sure to get them out of the dryer hot and lay them all down flat across the ironing board.  Then I fold them. Easy Peasy.  

Im heading off to help the turnout/stall gal as Coach Kate and 9 horses have all gone to a beeg show.  Then I’m going to the Ball Drumming class  

Later this aft I will go get my right SI injected.  New Doc.  I sure hope he’s as good as my old one, who moved back to Toronto whist her hubby finishes his fellowship.

  Bizarro computer problems have been keeping me up at night. A Firefox (my browser) update had glitches loading. Sometimes the corded mousie freezes. Double tapping the CAPS hold button won't always light up but still works. Bottom tray task bar I think that's the terminology disappeared. Everything was up to date except for 2 drivers (software and firmware) that a search via my phone said don't do it so I didn't. After preparing a very long text to Lucy........... I shut it off, then back on 10 minutes later, all looked good so I didn't text Lucy, then it froze up again, then I turned it off again and went to bed. Toss turn toss turn toss turn. Woke up ready to haul the laptop to Computer Warriors, a semi local company who has been better than the Geek Squad when it comes to computer issues.  Voila! This morning here I sit and and the laptop seems to be behaving.

In other news, I collected a poop sample from NoAh. Outside in my nightie cuz its hard to find his fresh droppings. He can be stealth pooper and doesn't have a favorite area in the backyard. I will drop off his lovely sample for his yearly testing.

One of my caterpillars made a chrysalis but he did it outside of the dog crate on the plastic fence material. No no bad cattypillar! Not safe there. Unfortunately I had to unlodge him. He is currently in a small paper towel sling so his body will be vertical, and is inside a simple plastic container. Instructions were from a butterfly page I follow. Did you know that if the chrysalis lays horizontal that the cattycritter could emerge with deformed wings???  And silly me. I thought they'd all eat, make their chrysaliseseses, emerge and fly away. Did you know that many don't and will overwinter?  I had no idea I was entering into a long term relationship.

Chris, I'm sorry you now have to worry about Andi's vision. It's been several years since I did my own research on PRA.  I know that there is a study going on at UC Davis about PRA--focused originally on its hereditary nature.  I think the initial study is complete and there is a follow up study involving female Greyhounds--that leaves Nate out.  However, I don't think any of that is looking at treatment or cure, but at understanding the genetics.  There seems to be nothing much that can be done to reverse of cure PRA.  The adoption group recommended AcuGlow supplement--it might slow the progression of the disease.  I gave that to Nate until it was clear that he had no vision left.  I'm not sure it helped but I was willing to give it a go just in case.  Generally PRA is painless.  Cataracts can become painful, so I watch Nate for any sign of eye discomfort.  "Happy" researching and    AndiPants seems like the kind of confident girl who'll adapt like Nate and Tiller.  Lucy

I think it's clear with sunnings but we gots so much wildfire smokings that it's hard to tell.  We were offishully 102 yesserday, and sposed to be around that again today.  BOO!!!!  And it smells smoky outside!  YUK!!

Hahaha!!!  We were waiting for the shenanigans report from Miss Ivy and Miss Cherry!!!   Glad you're having a good time on your croozing Miss Kathy!!  Rememmer to keep Mister Jim hydrashunal with alla the walking and stuff!!   

Momma has not touched a real like iron for decades.    If something she wants to wear is wrinkly, she will just wear it.  Or maybe she will hang it in the shower.  Or maybe choose something else to wear!!

Miss FancyToo, see, that's what I'm saying!!!  I do not care about my eyebrows AT ALL!!!    What are they, even????    I mean, I can see the reason for eyelashes, to protekt your eyeballs, but no skinny little eyebrow hair is gonna stop anything!!!    

Mister Charlie, that's what me and Flizzie do when there's working doods or doodettes in the house!  You gotta greet em and chekk em out and make sure they give good pets and stuff, but then we just lay down.  Momma says my sisser Toni used to like to supervize em, but I don't care that much, and it goves Momma something to do.    

OK.  Lemme clear up some stuff.  I AM FINE!!!  I do NOT know what Momma is fussing and wurrying about!!!    I can see fine!!  I see stoopid skwerrils and that stoopid white kitteh and the loor on the loor pole and treats Momma throws in the air and lotsa other stuff!!!    But now I gotta go to anuther vetamarian.    

I did have a good time yesserday.  Mostly.  Everybody loves me and hasta come out and say hello and give me pets, so that's great.  Then I got a buncha treatos from everybody.  I did get the shot and likwid thing - which was NASTY!! - but then I got more treatos!!    Then my vet turned out the lights and shined a really bright light in my eyes - over and over!!!  Then she turned the lights back on and did it all again!!!    Then I got tooken to anuther room and shoved around and my leggie holded weerd and loud noises for, like, five whole minits!!!    Then I got more treatos!!  Then we went home.

More hibernating today cause of the hawts.  That's fine since there's also a lot of smokings.  Momma is reading.  Again.  I wunner if *I* would like reading??    Maybe one of those audiobooks??

Ducky, I am not aware of any particular lost dog group specifically aimed at greyhounds or any sighthounds. I believe there are a couple of Nation wide “lost dog” websites but don’t know a lot about them.

Occasionally I see notices about a lost dog or cat tied up on a lamppost but that’s all. Any dog that runs off in my local forest runs the risk of getting hit by a car as there are several roads that run through the forest, or if it is chasing a deer and wanders into the bog it probably won’t come out again!

We do not have many wild animals that would pose a danger to a reasonable sized dog trying to survive in the wild. Leastways not locally anyway.
