Henry Actually Doesn't Have Osteo! (Update Post #311)

In case anybody was wondering, the bed is actually a kid's sized air mattress we bought at Walmart. It came with its own air pad which I didn't really like (not conducive to digging). So I replaced it with a polyfil Orvis bed and a ton of blankets. I love that it has a bumper so he can rest his head on the side. I also think he likes the feeling of being snuggled down inside. I was a little worried about whether or not he'd be okay stepping down in. But he immediately bee-lined to it and has not moved for the last three hours. I think it's safe to say it's a winner. :)

This update makes me teary. Glad to hear he's doing so well. And I love the symmetrical sleeping and Truman watching over his brother.

Ditto. They are so sweet together! And I LOVE this:

I was actually expecting the shock of the amp to be worse for me- but I saw his happy face, and knew it was Henry, just minus a leg.

Sniffle.

Wonderful update. It's so nice to see Henry is home and everything has been going so well. What a sweet photo of Truman watching over his brother. You've done a terrific job of preparing for Henry's recuperation.

So glad to hear that he is doing well! What a trooper! I helped with a couple of greyhound amputations when I was at OSU. The way the surgeon at OSU phrased it, often amputating a greyhound's leg is like sucking the will to live out of them. Temporarily of course. But he was right that the dogs I saw following the amp just... it was literally like they were convinced they couldn't go on without that leg. A day or two later they figured out that they could and went on to do very well of course, but there was no convincing them of it the day following the surgery. :rofl

So it sounds like Henry is doing exceptionally well with his cheery disposition! :):heart

Awesome!!! I was so happy to read all this, I teared up. :-) It sounds like such a happy reunion for everyone. Dave is also happy to hear this. I've been keeping Django updated too. He wants to come visit when Henry is up to it. Thanks for the update!

I tried to keep Truman away, but he was not having any parts of it. He wouldn't even lie on the couch with me. He insisted on being near his brother. After I brought his bed down and put it next to Henry, he settled and was also able to rest too.

He looks fantastic! So glad that he's made himself comfortable at home and that his friends want to be near him.

It is amazing how they can sense that they need to be gentle with their friend too. I was so amazed that my normally very rambunctious bunch were so careful around Pinky as she healed :)

Wishing you all a very peaceful and restful night!

He looks so cheerful, poor man. I am so happy to see his happy face. I know this is all so difficult for you, too.

All that you have gone through, Alicia, finally forced to make a decision on pet insurance and get Payton covered.

Linda, I'm glad to hear you decided to go with insurance! We're crossing our fingers that the pet insurance covers us, since the e-vet visit, x-ray diagnosis, surgery, and ICU stay has already cost over $3K. I will be waiting with bated breath these next few weeks while they review his records and make a decision.

Alicia, I don't know why they wouldn't cover you. Is there some specific reason you're concerned? This is the whole reason we get insurance. ;)

And I know Henry is supposed to be the star here, but I really love the meezer photos. Perhaps you need to just start a meezer thread in OT. :)
