From the other room I hear Punkin's voice winding up, which means that Annie is again channeling The Mayhem and standing over her, willing her to move to another bed because Annie,Wants.This.Bed. KNOT for lack of other beds, of course, available during this episode are two couches and at least one additional snuggly bed. Sigh Annie, just sigh. During the entire Willing event, her tail is waving slow and low until she hears me yell, then it speeds up and she puts on her happy face, which again confirms that that dog ain't rite   So I yell again:  Annie, don't pick on Punkin! No Punkin picking.

Ok Annie, this is how you do it. Casually walk into the room where the bed you want is, but ignore the dog who has stolen your chosen bed. Suddenly, look up, all alert, and run out of the room like you hear someone handing out unlimited treats. The bed stealing dog will jump up and run out to see what is going on, you double back and take possession of your bed. Works, every time.

Lilly learned her lesson years ago.  She walks up to the bed she wants, stares at the occupant for a few minutes, turns around and sits in front of DH or I.  This cycle repeats until the stupid human moves said interloper enough for Lilly to lay in the place she wants!!

At our house Nate just stands and looms over poor Spirit.  Spirit growls and snarls viciously (Nate hears those growls but can't see the snarly face) but then Spirit, who is being saintly (!) gets up and moves to the other bed, giving Nate what he wants.

Piper The Perfect had a good routine too.  If he wanted to be where MoMo and Spirit were (usually the couch) then Piper would mosey to the back door asking to go out.  The 2 youngsters would leap up to go out too, pushing and shoving in front of Piper.  As they headed out the door, Piper would then turn smartly on his heel and go claim the couch.  The young 'ens never learned.  

These dogs never stop filling our lives with love and fun and memories and stories and laughter.

Annie, what was so special about that bed - or was it that Punkin was in it?  You can pick punkins this time of year, butt you shouldn't pick on Punkin.

Honey had a very particular spot on my bed.  If Pinky had the temerity to occupy that location, Honey would pout until I Pinky moved.

We have bed coveting here too. Most of the miscreants stand and stare, or occasionally pace. Some even just move in. The important part is matching the technique to the victim.  When the techniques don't work, some will move to the kitchen to ask the human for help by pretending to need a drink and/or attention. The human is generally unhelpful.

Milo the Devious has a variation when he doesn't want to bother to pretend to go outside.  He hops up next to me and looks adorable, puts his paw on my arm, and gets me sweet-talking to him.  This makes Jeter want to be next to me.  When Jeter comes over to me to get in on the action, Milo hops off and takes whatever space Jeter just left.

Rolo whippet would go and whine at the living room door or pace around worriedly then when I got up to let him out he would be in my seat before I had time to turn around!

Chancey sometimes does a variation of Milo’s system, she comes to me for a fuss then nips onto the settee that Nutmeg just vacated as she is jealous of any fuss Chancey gets and came rushing over for her share.
