4My2Greys
Thank you for your good thoughts for Chase everyone. It has been a long and worrisome day. He was in a lot of pain when I picked him up this morning. Taking him to my vet brought on another severe panic attack which I was afraid would bring on a worsened state of rhabdomylosis. My vet ended up giving him butorphanol and dexdomitor to mildly sedate him he was getting so worked up. Overall he thinks his bloodwork looks good. He gave him more i.v. fluids today. This evening he is still walking stiffly, but I am seeing some improvement. He's on tramadol to help with the pain. He hasn't eaten since yesterday morning and refuses all food, which is very unlike him. He is drinking plenty of water though, which is good. His urine definitely looks better. In the report from the e-vet his urine was described as having the color of "port wine", now it is a nice light yellow color. I really hope I caught this in time and he won't have any residual problems.

4My2Greys
I'm really not sure what I should be expecting as far as recovery, but he hasn't been doing very good up to now. Last night he got me up 3 times between 10:00 and 3:00 a.m. to pee. I had to go to work today and since coming home around 6:00 he has spent the majority of time running outside to try to go to pee or poop. As soon as he drinks a little he has to run out to pee. There is not much for him to poop as he hasn't eaten hardly anything since Saturday morning. Today he ate for the first time since then, but even that hasn't even been a third of what he normally would eat. He still walks and moves very stiffly. There were some results of his chem panel that have me concerned. ALT 320 U/L (10-100) TBIL 1.0 mg/dL (0.0-0.9) Na 169 mmol/L (144-160) Cl 124 mmol/L (109-122) The Na doesn't seem that high according to the reference range given, but it is at the upper range of the high side on the graph. I worry so much that irreparable damage has been done to his kidneys and the problems have only just begun.

teri_d
Hope this helps in some way -- Our rhabdo experience with bleu - her first episode (she was just 4 years old) she was at the e vet/specialty clinic for at least 5 days - she could not even stand up in her vet run for 24 hours -- she was quite wobbly for quite a few days even after she came home. The vets and I were spoiling her rotten and making her chicken breasts and goodies to eat, so she was eating well. Her second episode was about a year later after the sudden loss of our other grey (whistlers win) to osteo - she was, again, so lethargic she could barely even stand up - we were carrying her outside to use the bathroom for several days - like extreme grief taken to the max is the only way I can explain it. She was never hospitalized during that episode, but we were in close communication with vets and our group as well. Her third episode with rhabdo is when the diagnosis finally came - it did require evet/specialty clinic stay again, but not as long. And she seemed to bounce back a bit better. The diagnosis was actually suggested by teddy Palmer from our group, hhga, after consulting with all the greyhound gurus with her symptoms and lab work results (the vet clinic had tested for addisons and tbd amongst other things). It is just so hard because it is so very rare and I think it can present differently. I am sorry to have to tell you that bleu passed away last November at age 7.......rhabdo (nicknamed also stress rider disease I believe) is very serious stuff -- very rare luckily - please pm me with any questions I can maybe answer for you - hope this short version of what we went thru helps in some way - again feel free to pm me
