DesiRayMom Posted June 27, 2014 Share Posted June 27, 2014 My heart is aching. Today I had to let a dear friend go to the bridge. He came to me as a stray, covered in fleas & ticks, but the happiest young man you'd ever meet. He wandered into the campsite where I was staying, invited himself to dinner, spent the night under the truck, invited himself to breakfast, then invited himself to come home with me and never left. He was a young adult, so I called him 1 year old & celebrated his birthday on Memorial Day, the day he wandered into my life. He was the size of a beagle, with beagle ears, and omg such a beagle nose, but was all black like a lab, with a white patch on his chest. He should have written the song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" because that was the way he lived his life. Always happy, up for anything, anytime. Outlived 3 other canine companions, loved everybody. He's been my friend for 16 years through thick & thin, good times & bad. He'd been healthy all his life, up until last year and even then I kept him pasted together with Prilosec, Budesonide, love, and weinies. I didn't think he'd make it through last winter, but he did. He took another bad turn last weekend, and I knew in my heart his time was near. This is the way I'll always remember him, laying in the soft green grass with Desi, watching the world go by.
