  2. PJ, I'm so sorry that your sweet girl had to leave. Run-free, Kali.
  3. Rocket had his previous dental at age 10 using normal protocols. Nothing special needed. As it turned out he only needed a cleaning and a tiny bit of scaling. No extractions, and that was his first dental since he came to us at age 3. He had never needed one before and always had great teeth like no other greyhound I've heard of. There were no issues with the knock out juice.
  4. Sorry, I was out all day and just got back here. Thanks to Greysmom for answering your question on the Gas-X. If it continues or she continues not eating then it sounds like a vet check is in order. We've had our share of $400 upset tummy vet visits, but after a few meals skipped, it seems like the weight starts falling off quickly if you can't get them back to eating. Hope Lola is feeling better by now.
  5. Gas-X tablet usually works well for gas. You'll usually get a big belch within 20 minutes, often sooner. Just plain Gas-X, not the ones with any other "features." I keep this chart on our refrigerator as a quick reference for bloat. http://www.bmd.org/bmdcr/bloat_chart.pdf If she's turned down 3 meals, but everything else is normal, you might try a small amount of stinky canned food or tuna and see if she will eat that to jump start her eating. If she still won't eat, then a vet visit is probably in order.
  6. Feel better soon Miss Shine. Nothing like a GSOD to get your attention. Hope whatever it is, it's minor.
  7. I will second the Purina Pro Plan Focus as something that worked well for Rocket. I did add Olewo carrots to it, but probably wouldn't have had to. He has also been on Tylan with each meal for about 6 years, and even that didn't completely get rid of the Stress Colitis. We only had one or two bouts of the tummy growls in the year or so that he was eating the Pro Plan Focus. Also - Rocket refuses to eat IAMS Green Bag, so YMMV with any brand that you try. Basically, if you find a food that works well for your dog, stick with it. He is now 12, and we recently did bloodwork when he wasn't feeling well, and found that he has some kidney issues. We had to change to a prescription kidney diet to get his labs back where they need to be, and the Purina kidney diet has been perfect with none of the stress colitis happening.
  8. Rocket just turned 12 and occasionally started limping for no apparent reason last year, just an intermittent thing. He did have some pain reactions when his shoulders were pressed on by the vet. I put him on a maintenance dose of 1 Tramadol per day (with the Vet's blessing) and he is pretty much back to spinning, running etc. The limp rarely appears now, and when it does he just gets an extra Tramadol that day. He has also stopped jumping into the car, so we are working with him on ramp training since he loves rides. It obviously just hurts too much to jump high now. The picture above does look like a corn or some other pad issue. so that may well be what's bothering him. As your dog gets older, you may find that he needs a little pain medication of some type simply because of aches and pains like all of us. I was fortunate that Rocket didn't need it until he was 11.
  9. I'm very sorry for your loss. Run-free, Misty.

  13. Ducky, thank you for taking in this sweet boy. I'm so sorry that he had to leave so soon. Run-free, Allen.
  14. If she was on her bed, she could have been asleep and just giving a warning as she sensed something getting close to her. They can and do sleep with their eyes open. A growl is a warning and just means that she isn't comfortable with whatever it is that's happening at that moment. Respect the warning and walk away. The bed is her space.
  15. I'm so sorry for your sudden loss. Run-free, sweet Annie.
  16. Sending good thoughts for Ruby's dental. I don't know enough about the numbers / labs to be of help, but taking care of those teeth sounds like the right start.
  17. Discussion about this posted here. http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/322228-christmas-miracle/
  18. I'd have your vet run some blood work to see if there's some underlying thing going on. Rocket has been eating the Pro Plan Focus for 1-2 years and loved it. All of the sudden he was leaving food in the bowl or not wanting to eat. It was a little more obvious to me that he also did not feel well. We did a lot of blood work to rule out things since he is 12, and the results came back with him having very early stage kidney disease. We switched him to a prescription Kidney Diet made by Purina and he was feeling better in a little over a week. There was a noticeable difference in his behavior and energy after starting the new diet. (I'm not saying this is the problem, just an example of how blood work can help since the problem seems to be ongoing) Some hounds do get picky about their food as they get older and it can be a challenge. In the past when I had cook something like a bland diet, I would make a dozen scrambled eggs at a time and a huge bowl of mushy white rice. Both are easy to reheat in the microwave for meal portions. Also, when Rocket gets those squeals from an empty tummy, I usually end up giving him half a can of wet food first, then a few hours later he will usually eat kibble. Wet food is the only thing he wants when he has the tummy squeals. Good luck!
