mrsmcd7
Our vet in Lisle, IL (Chicago West burbs) gave estimate of $739-$1169. Low range is no extractions high range is extractions. They say they wont know until they put him under and take a closer look. Seems very $$$. Anyone have any experience with this?
Potomacpupsmom
Our girl just had a dental yesterday with 10 extractions. $1184 ! We live in the Washington DC suburbs. So your estimate is probably correct. macoduck
Never paid more than $400 including extractions, antibiotics and digital xrays here in coastal North Carolina. Time4ANap
We've had posts like this before and it all depends on where you live and what the local vet market is like. Rocket's last dental in 12/15 was tied in with a surgery to remove a benign mass under his skin and the whole thing was only $400 or so plus the cost of labs beforehand. He needed no extractions. greysmom
Yes, it's all dependent on your geographical area and the type of vet you have. A specialist will be much more than a GP vet, etc., and big city costs are definitely higher than small ones. MP_the4pack
When I felt I needed a canine dentist as opposed to the regular vet, it cost me approximately $3000. When I went to my local vet it was never more than $400 including an extraction or two. And I'm in NJ. Notorious for high costs.
MaryJane
Larger cities will have higher costs so, your numbers are about what I would pay around Boston. I also suggest that you also look into getting x-rays of the teeth so you can spot potential problems.
racindog
Most recent cost was $600 to get Gilly's teeth cleaned and 1 tooth extracted here in Louisville, KY.
Hubcitypam
Buck's was $400 here in Dallas but that was close to a decade ago. I'd guess it's probably $600 or so now.
Remolacha
Val’s recent dental was around $800, but she lost 7 teeth. Conner went to a specialist last summer, which included an anesthesiologist monitoring him during the entire procedure. He lost 18? teeth. It was pricy, but worth it for my peace of mind since Conner is 12.5.
mrsmcd7
This includes the X-rays also. It is a GP vet It also says in the fine print it can go up by 20% from quote..... Thanks I searched forums for dental dental prices etc and couldnt find what I was looking for so I posted. Sorry if its redundant!! cleptogrey
I have a friend whose greyhound had over $3k work done at a NY suburb vet. When she moved down to Tom's River, NJ the price for almost the same amount of work was down to $500.(she had 3 greys at the time and kept good track of what was being done to their teeth.) Also another friend used to go from central jersey out to PA for dental care, a lot cheaper. How about going out of your area? It might be worth it if you have the time. Batmom
Might not hurt to check around? Your low end is around what I paid at the specialty (VCA Aurora - your neighborhood) for dental + one extraction for my cardiac patient. Not including prelim bloodwork; believe they'll accept bloodwork done within 30 days. You'd need a consult first but that is just normal office visit charge. We saw Dr Hertz, whom I would highly recommend. Locally (Rockford) it's a lot less, $200-$300 I believe. Haven't had one done here for some years because cardiac patient needs specialty service. GeorgeofNE
Your inquiry isn't redundant but only in a very similar geographic area does it make sense to compare costs. I RARELY go to my vet for even the most routine thing and pay less than $200. I think your low end estimate IS high, but your high end is not. Guest MrDrysdale
After a pricey dental it's a greyt idea to explore daily teeth brushing. I might wait a 7-10 days afterwards depending on extractions but regular brushing is so important for our hounds.
mrsmcd7
Thanks all! Yes I am happy at how beautiful his teeth are now! He has a follow up on Friday, then I can brush his teeth again. GreyAcresMom
I’ll be real honest here. It’s crazy the way most Vets are charging. I have thought that the estimate I was given from a cheap clinic was crazy. $125 for bloodwork. Then if all is well, $500. I think I could load up all the dogs that needs dental, and drive the 1200 miles in the truck that gets crappy gas mileage and get all three done way cheaper than here. It sucks.
