maryz Posted October 7, 2014 Share Posted October 7, 2014 My DD's dog, Baron, was sent to the bridge this morning. She rescued him from a shelter while she was in college studying to be a vet tech. He was from the local shelter in town and the students would bring some of the dogs to the college to spay, neuter and do dentals on them to make them ready for adoption. Some of them, like Baron, would also be used for blood donations. Back in 2001, at the end of a semester, she went to say good-bye to him and she was told he was going to be put down at the end of the week as there had been no interest in him and he was a long-term resident. Needless to say, she brought him home. Baron went through many good times with her-her marriage, the birth of two sons, the addition of four cats to the family and many moves as her husband is in the Air Force. He adored her and I think that is why he made it to 20 years old. (The year 1994 is tattooed on his abdomen). When she adopted him, the shelter put him at 6 or 7 years old, so it fits. We will all miss you Baron, especially your herding all the cats and the kids, your endless counter-surfing and your trying to run alongside Sherri, even last summer! Rest well, sweet boy. You had a great life and enriched ours. It's a blessing that she was able to rescue him, and make him such an important, beloved part of her family for so long, but it also makes his loss even more enormous.
