Guest jenmm Posted March 23, 2012 Share Posted March 23, 2012 Oats Yankee was only my 2nd foster. It's not that we didn't try adopting him out. Three times he went to other homes and three times he came back to me within 24 hours. He was bad in those other homes. He was bad for me, but not nearly as bad. He chose me. I did adopt him officially 6 months later. And then his littermates, Bernie and Whizzer. He stole dirty dishes from the sink. He peed in the house, though we could never find a medical issue. He had terrible nighttime anxiety. I was the only one who could comfort him occasionally at night. The first morning in my house, he smiled at me. He smiled at me everyday. No matter how bad my day, he was happy and energetic and the most loving greyhound. He'd push past the other dogs to greet me or whoever was at my house. He'd jump at me if he was upset I was leaving. He loved being loved. And when I had the flu, he would lay beside me on the bathroom floor. When I was pregnant and had morning sickness, he came in the bathroom to check on me. The next morning, he came in the bathroom and threw up on my bathroom floor! He was full of empathy. I'm sure his littermate Whizzer greeted him at the bridge. I'm sure he is free of his nighttime demons. I miss Yankee's smile and loving personality.
