Good Thoughts For Pinky Will Be Much Appreciated

Recommended Posts

Pinky goes in tomorrow morning for surgery to remove her left rear leg due to osteosarcoma. She will spend the night in the ER and will hopefully be able to come home on Tuesday evening.

If you could please keep my little Pinkus in your thoughts tomorrow, I would appreciate it.

Oh, precious girl, we will keep you in our prayers---good thoughts for the best possible outcome tomorrow.

Kristin, try and get some sleep tonight---you will need it. Are you comfortable with her coming home on Tuesday? I only say this because she may have a few rough nights because of the anesthesia and pain meds. Please know that it DOES get better. She is a brave and strong girl---she will do great!

Positive thoughts for a successful surgery, and rapid recovery as a happy and active tripod.

If you haven't already requested it, please consider asking your vet to have a prescription called in to a "compounding pharmacy" for Aminocaproic Acid for you to give at home for 5 days. Liquid form is cheapest and can be flavored so hounds like it (beef).

Cost in our area is about $25.00 to $35.00 (west coast).

If available, vets can administer it on surgery day by injection too.

Even if pharmacy doesn't have it in stock, it can still be worth getting soon after, it even if a day or so later.

"Bone Cancer in Greyhounds" (from Ohio State University)

Specific Aminocaproic Acid prescription dosage:

Pinky will be in our most positive thoughts tomorrow.

Love and prayers for pinky. How old is she?

Pinky is 8 - she'll be 9 next April :)

We've got the Amicar all ready to go. Our surgeon is a great guy and has done (unfortunately) many greyhound amputations. He consults with OSU and follows their protocols.

I know we are in for a rough couple of weeks, but my girl is strong. I'm comfortable with her coming home Tuesday - she's not a nervous dog, but will be much happier at home than she will be at the vet's office. Doc said as long as she's able to get up and move around on Tuesday, I can pick her up Tuesday evening.

I have spent the weekend cleaning and rearranging everything to provide safe spaces for her. I'm home all week and will be working in my home office, so I've got an area all set up for her in there too as that's where we'll be spending most of our time :) My mom will also be stopping in to visit from time to time, to sit with Pinky so I can take a shower, etc. and do some things with the rest of the pups. It will be kind of like having a newborn baby home for a while, but we're ready.

I was just checking in specifically to let you know I'm thinking of you and sending best wishes for a good surgery and recovery tomorrow.

You've done all the prep work you could possibly do. Let the battle begin!

I'll be checking to see how she's doing. Feel free to email or PM if there's anything I can do.
