April 2, 2005 - April 11, 2011 She suffered from what the doc (all 3 different vets) believed to be degenerative myelopathy. We had battled with this disease since about Christmas time, and it would come and go, but it's a progressive degenerative disease, and just kept getting worse. For most of the past 4 months she could walk, albeit quite wobbly. We put her on a special diet, Gabrielle slaved in the kitchen cooking her meals for her, she was on Omega-3 fatty acid pills, multi-vitamins, and ultimately a special medical treatment, but nothing really helped. Over the past 4 days, she got to the point where she couldn't stand or walk. We'd stand her up and she would just fall over. Her hind legs and her front left leg didn't work anymore. She stopped eating and drinking, and the disease ultimately effected her bowels and her bladder. It was the hardest decision we have ever had to make, but her quality of life was so significantly degraded that it just was not fair to her. The disease progressed so fast that we weren't ready for it (but are you ever ready for that?). She was young (6 years old) but we were lucky to have had the privilege of spending 3 wonderful years with her. We will miss her dearly, as will her sister Linny, our house just isn't the same without her. RIP Lovely Leigh. We haven't been on GT in a couple years (since they changed the format, but our old user name was Lovely Leigh). Leigh's playmate (partner in crime) Linny has been quite sad. Not eating, moping around, laying in Leigh's bed etc.... We are sad, but it was for the best and we will always remember our sweet little girl smiling and rooing when we came home from a long day at work.
