Neyla Needs Your Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Jen it will not be osteo. Because I say so. Incidentally, I've also told Turbo many times he's not allowed to get OSA. He has to stay with me until he's 20, at least. Neyla will do the same. Anyway, if you need anything at all, Jen, call me. Sending you and Neyla the best thoughts possible in the whole world.

Nope. Can't be. Not allowed.

Was she still taking meds when I saw her Sat? Because she seemed happy, pain free and a lover of ice cream.

Oh Jen :grouphug For your sake, I hope it's not osteo...but get those xrays to Dr. C immediately. I'd also recommend the fine needle aspiration. It will help you rule out anything else it could be (fungal thing, some sort of infection).

While we don't really have a clear diagnosis for Sutra, I saw the xrays and they look just like Riley's (Lucy forwarded them to me). The FNA showed some spindle cells, but the slides looked a bit abnormal for a usual osteo diagnosis. I am quite sure we are dealing with osteo, but we don't know for sure. In any case, I have chosen not to amputate with Sutra, so, I guess it doesn't REALLY matter what the diagnosis is.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but, any time Sutra would limp, it would go away right away with Deramaxx and tramadol.

He is now about 5 days without deramaxx and still not limping.

Best thing to do is get those xrays sent, get the FNA, and start artemisinin and fosamax...bigorangedog can tell you more about that particular protocol - I believe it is called the metronomic protocol. Dr. C can fill you in too.

Thank you everyone for all of the support! I am shocked by how many responses I've gotten already. Thank you!

:tomato I swear, I tried to edit myself, but at some point I just gave up as usual. :P

Wow, 20, you are tough. Although I certainly plan to renegotiate at 15 (for another 5 years of course :P). Anyway, thank you, really.

Nope. Can't be. Not allowed.

Was she still taking meds when I saw her Sat? Because she seemed happy, pain free and a lover of ice cream.

She was still on the Tramadol, but we had stopped the Deramaxx, maybe a day or two before?

Kristin or Riley's mom, would you be willing to email your x-rays to me? I would like to see what osteo looks like. If you PM me, I can give you my email address.

Kristin, I was going to mention this to you separately - Dr. Canapp told me about a special type of "3D" radiation being used in Florida that would be a possible treatment option. It sounds really promising for tumors caught in teh early stages, but I need to do some research. It would be a reason for us to NOT do the FNA though b/c you would not want to potentially weaken the bone before doing the treatment. I don't know if it would be an option for Sutra now, but if you're interested, it's called stereotactic radiation.

That's interesting about the 3D radiation Jen...I doubt we'd be able to have access to anything like that around here though, unfortunately.

A fine needle aspiration doesn't weaken the bone...it's the core biopsies that weaken the bone, and OSU does not recommend those for greyhounds for that specific reason.

I don't have Sutra's xrays - I gave the CD to our regular vet, but I have been meaning to get an extra copy of them for myself. When I get them I will happily share them with you. Do you have Neyla's? If you want, you can email them to me. I'll PM you my email address. Hopefully Lucy will see this and send you Riley's.
