A vet exam and echocardiogram lead to a diagnosis of a Pericardial Effusion, (fluid on the heart) likely secondary to hemangiosarcoma.Since she responded so poorly to anesthesia in the past, it would not render any attempts to drain the fluid dangerous, but in vain since it would likely continue to return due to the cancer, we opted to go with a carb-free raw diet and palative care.And, until last night, she seemed to have rebounded on the raw. Her pannus, which had rendered her nearly blind almost completely went into remission and she even had moments of spunkiness, remaining fiesty and demanding her food at dinnertime. Last night, after brief walk she seemed to be having an episode with labored breathing, so we agreed to call the vet in the morning.This morning, her gums were white and extremities cold to the touch. While waiting for a return call from the vet, she began to seize. (I was at school) My husband and the neighbor got her into the car into the vet, where she stopped breathing and was assisted on her way.
