Lazer is Celebrating his One year Anniversary of Life after Death! :pepper
and if lazer is celebrating - that means i am too.
I wanted to share my journey with you ~ everyone in H&M has been such a wonderful support group for me,. sorry, it's long B) and might be a bit tooo much, but this is it ~ grab a glass of wine, or a cup of coffee and enjoy!
On Aug. 9th last year, neither DH or I knew that our lives were going to be turned upside down. That we were to start a journey of faith, learning and acceptance. That a new world of Energy and healing was going to open up, guiding us thru a maze of uncertainty
I recently found out that Lazer has a guardian angel. Someone from his past that is with him almost all the time. Maybe it is someone he wanted to “go” to and stay with when on Aug. 10th last year, Lazer died in my backyard. When I found him he was calm but not breathing and he did not have a heart beat. I want to believe he was with his guardian Angel and that he was not afraid.

I gave him CPR and selfishly brought him back to me. It took several minutes before Lazer was able to “think” straight. I could see it in his eyes, he was trying to make sense of what was going on. He eventually stood and walked over to his cushy bed where he laid down again. From this moment, my life changed,, his did too!

Lazer had a Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) which occurs when a blood clot lodges in one of the arteries that feed into the lungs. Blood that clots too easily, can predispose a dog to thrombus (blood clot) formation. Most of the time, PTE is caused by another underlying disease. In Lazers case, it is Glomerulonephritis, a type of kidney disease where part of the kidney that helps to filter waste and fluids from the blood is damaged and leads to protein loss in the urine: Proteinuria. Protein loss (anti-thrombin) is what prevents the blood from clotting.

Pulmonary thromboemboli (blood clots) can originate in the right atrium of the heart, or in many of the major veins throughout the body. As the dog's body makes oxygenated blood to deliver to the heart and lungs, this clump of blood cells is carried through the bloodstream toward the lungs, where it gets caught in a narrow portion of one of the passages of the arterial network that feeds oxygenated blood to the lungs. In this way, the blood flow through that artery is halted, and oxygenated blood is not able to reach the lung. The severity of the condition is, to a degree, dependent on the size of the blood clot. Thromboembolism is the cause of death for at least 13% of dogs with glomerular disease. Much of the blame has been placed on anti-thrombin, which is lost through the damaged glomerulus. Risk of thromboembolism is greatest when anti-thrombin is less than 75% of normal. This correlates with a serum albumin of approximately 2.0 g/dl. ( at the time of his collapse Lazer’s Albumin level was 2.0)
*most of the paragraph above is from web site: www.merckvetmanual.com

All this medical stuff just means that Lazer is really sick and his prognosis is poor.
During that initial ultrasound, we could see the thrombus. Then we realized, he had not one, but 3 major blood clots in his heart and pulmonary artery. His blood test results showed him with very low albumin levels and his urinalysis showed very high protein loss. The fact he is alive for us to even do the ultrasound is a major miracle. The cardiologist and internal specialist and the vet. office on the corner who first saw Lazer, all gave us the option of euthanasia. They said Lazer would not survive even a week.

With prescription meds, herbal supplements and the use of therapeutic grade Essential Oils, Lazer has beaten the odds. We have gone through months of giving him sub Q fluids and administering pills 4 times a day. Applying Oils 4 times a day. Feeding him ANYTHING he would eat - 4 times a day. Through months of non-stop prayer and worry, watching him be brave and trying to listen to him - not wanting to hear his plea for release,,, but being prepared to give it, if he asked
Lazer is not cured: he still has a thrombus in his right atrium. The other 2 clots have completely resolved and are gone! And His blood pressure is under control. He has a very low Valley Fever titer, a specific desert southwest, airborne fungus. He has a reoccurring limp that is worrisome. His blood and urine values have been stable all year. He has terrible teeth! In fact we believe that the bacteria from his teeth and other toxins and pesticides are the root cause of his disease

His symptoms are being managed and we are living every day knowing he is a miracle.

Lazer loves to go on his daily walk ~ if the temperature is under 80 degrees and he loves to get in the pool afterward for a quick cool down “swim”. He is a SMILER! and will woof for his favorite treats.
He plays with Squeaky toys. He is living the good life ~ one day, one moment, one breath at a time.

This last year has been an incredible journey. I have made new life-long friends who have been my advisors and the voice of reason thru some pretty crazy times. I have learned to trust alternative therapies and testing and treatments, that I used to dismiss as voo-doo. I have gained confidence in my intuition regarding the health of my dogs. And I have a wonderful family who has supported my endless hours of research and nursing, many times to the exclusion of cleaning the house or making dinner.

Lazer turned 6 yrs old in May. He is a young ~ happy boy, who I’d like to see live another 6+ years!!! I don’t know what the future holds for us ~ but I do know that I want to live my life as our dogs do ~ one moment, one cookie, one nap,,,, one day at a time.

if you made it this far ~ Thank you so much for reading! :blush
Live each day with your loved hounds and humans ~ you never know what tomorrow will bring

:yay YEA ! LAZER :yay ,,, you made it buddy, your mom and dad love you!!!

What an absolutely amazing story. Clearly, his guardian angel believes that he has more to do here.

What a remarkable story and life which brought tears to my eyes. Tears because you thought you were losing him.......tears for the love that you and dh have ............and tears of what you have learned from him. Lazer has many more years to come with you two. Lazer is blessed to have the two of you and you two are blessed for what he has taught you.

What a wonderful story to share with us. Long live Lazer!

I am sure, aside from the guardian angel, the care that you are giving him, is essential and responsible for his well being.
