  1. Yes I agree.vet does as well. She is much calmer today. We just came in from the backyard..she peed on her own...layed in the grass with me..and then played like her crazy self. I have her on 3 mgs melatonin 3 Times a day for now and 100 l theanine twice day. Stools were improved today. I have decreased her esophagus treats as well. Thanks for input!
  2. That's what I think. Also doing special treats in the yard!
  3. I will ask my vet about blood work. She seems reactive to noise...which she never was at all. Fireworks do not phase her.
  4. Thank you... I missed the call from my vet.. She said the stool sample was negative and we would talk on Saturday regarding the soft poop. She was just in to the office for xrays and an exam after she dislocated her toe and it swelled again after healing. Xrays revealed arthritis in her feet and two compressed vertebrea at the bottom. We then increased her derramax to every day as I had been doing it daily. Could attribute to soft poop as well as an increase in esophogus treats. I will surely bring her in if she wants me to. RE behavior: yes I do think it is related to stopping the supplements..I don't know why i thought it was ok to mess with a good thing! I have started melatonin and will add in l-theanine today. She did seem perkier last night. There is also a lot of construction going on with the house directly behind us...and i have found many "nerf' darts on the grass. I know the kids next door play with them...I am wondering if she was out there and got scared ... i will speak with the vet and get her input on both issues. Thank you
  5. My girl Cozett is 7 years old. She has some separation anxiety and has been on L-theanine and melatonin for a couple of years. She has typically been a happy, fun girl loves to play. She takes Derramax for lower disc issues and incurin for incontinence as well as joint supplements Since she was doing so well.. I slowly weaned her off of the L-theanine and melatonin. she has had soft stools for the past couple of weeks. waiting on stool results. There has been a major change in her behavior recently. I am wondering if she needs to stay on l-theanine and melatonin. ( i restarted melatonin a few days ago and will start L-Theanine when it arrives via amazon tomorrow) She is less playful...a bit mopey..and the big change: she will not go into the backyard at all. She typically would go out to do her business and play in between walks. She seems scared and jumpy when out. She seems to be sniffing the grass a lot...and last week sniffed and ran into the house. She will go out if I put her on a leash. i have reserved special treats for when she goes out there. I am at a loss and very worried about her. This morning I took her out and she would not even pee...just stood there looking anxious. this is how she behaved when we moved here two years ago... I will speak with the vet today ( very grey saavy) about her stool results...I have filled her in on the behavior changes. She wanted to get the results back and go from there. Any advice is appreciated.
  6. I am posting for a friend (non-greyhound). Her (rescue) dog has severe anxiety around anyone but her. She has worked with a good trainer and both the trainer and vet suggested meds. They started him on prozac. His behavior worsened. Became MORE aggressive..even towards his owner. She has stopped giving it and is looking into wholistic supplements. 1. has anyone experienced this reaction to prozac? 2. suggestions for natural "meds" to help him relax? My grey girl takes melatonin and l-theanine for separation anxiety.. suggestions please! she is desperate to help this guy.
  7. thanks. I think I would know by now if she tore her acl, right?? she is not complaining or limping. i think i may skip her derramax tomorrow to see how she is.
  8. Yes she is walking ok. yesterday a little slower...today normal. she has been getting derramax for her back though. Question: after I clean it do I put neosporin on before the vetericyn gel? I read that keeps dirt out, etc but does not provide any anti-bacterial protection. I am cleaning with Nolvasan. Thank you
  9. the wound stopped bleeding. appears to be drying up. i had no luck with keeping it covered. i am cleaning regularly and putting vetricyn on it...especially after we come in from outside. trying to keep her calm..she is a crazy girl. I dont think we need a vet trip. Thank you for all the advice!
  10. thank you that is what I am doing. I put the non stick gauze on with self stick wrap...comes right off. or she takes it off. I am keepingh her calm.
  11. This morning Cozett was running her crazy self and slipped hard on the wet slates. She ripped the skin on her knee joint. I am keeping it clean and putting neosporin and vetericyn on the wound. It is now almost 6 pm and it is still bleeding...this happened at 8:30 am. The bleeding is much much less..just a small amount on her bed when she gets up. I made a paste with flour to help clot the blood rather than styptic powder thinking that would burn. I cant cover it as it right on the knee joint. any suggestions to stop the oozing blood? will call vet in am if it is still bleeding in the morning. thank you
  12. that's what i thought of doing..putting a freezer in my office
  13. Red Head: can you give me the names of the companies? thank you. Not sure of the location or if they are delivered. thanks
  14. my husband would kill me..he is already upset with this..asked if we will eat..
  15. that's how i am feeling. we recently downsized to a small house..NO room for a freezer..thinking this is not going to work i am having trouble closing the freezer..keep moving the tubes around!
  16. thank you. my girl could stand to gain some weight...hip bones are sticking out. but i am in a small home with a side by side frig/freezer. 5 rolls take up two shelves! i want to feed her well..but can't go broke doing it. thanks for your advice
  17. I met a distributor for K9 kraving raw dog food at a fundraiser. http://www.k-9kraving.com/ Comes in 5 lb rolls and is completely balanced. My 5 year old grey loved the sample of chicken she gave me..so I decided to give it a try. they can take anything back my dog does not eat. I am a bit confused and "grossed out"...so looking of advice from other grey owners. she said to start with 3/4 lb twice a day and see how see goes. That would mean 6.6 meals per roll or 3 days per roll. that means 5 rolls is only 15 days? might be a bit cost prohibitive Also. I did not get a scale yet so i managed to cut the roll into 6 even pieces with a 1/2 a piece left over. this was extremely messy..is it ok to defrost the whole roll, weigh into equal portions and re-freeze?? or do i leave all defrosted in the frig? I am sending the distributor an email as well..i don't think i am cut out for total raw feeding...
  18. We have had Cozett for 2 years. She is extremely playful and active..loves to run. 3 weeks ago we moved to a new home with a much smaller yard . We actually just decreased driveway size to make more yard for her.. But.. She seems so different so ce me moved.. Almost depressed. She did fall running.. And is now on Derrimax. Xrays showed stenosis (she is only 4).I feel like I have let her down taking her from her yard.. Hoping we are still in the adjustment period.. Any advice on experience with moving would be appreciated. I am sad for her.. Seems like her personality has changed.
  19. Last night was the second time Cozett caught a bird. I was able to get it away from her. After eating dinner today she went outside. Looking for her I found her chewing on another bird! This time she ate a good amount of the bird... Head was gone, feathers were on the grass. I have a call into my vet. Should 2 I be worried?
  20. I know..and understand that! I was just thinking if she had another dog to "hang" with..she would be better being on her own. She gets SO excited when we meet dogs on walks...or people for that matter..she is a social butterfly..like no other grey I have ever had!
  21. I spoke with my vet. she wants me to start Cozett back on melatonin before re-starting meds (clomitrapine??). Give her a little time and see how she is doing. The last few days have been good..back to happy, goofy self. I did switch up her treats that she gets when I leave. She had been getting a small bull stick when I left. ..seemed like she was bored with them. I picked up a few beef tracheas which she has had in the past and LOVED and the pet store suggested some beef chew thing (all natural). in addition to melaton, I restarted L-theanaline. I had used it when she was new to us in addition to melatonin. I also put a few drops of lavender essential oil on her collar..then when I removed it, she still had the scent of lavender on her neck. My vet said she could stay on melatonin long term as it is natural. Hope she continues to be "happy". I still think a second dog is what she needs! she plays with me like she would another dog..and follows me around so close that she has crashed into me when i stop! She is very social ..and I think she needs a companion. unfortunately my husband is not "caving"....yet!
  22. Yes I agree about vet check and possibility that the vet boarding was stressful. She had stayed there one night previously and was fine. This time she soiled herself frequently the tech said. Thank you. I will speak with the vet tomorrow
  23. No to weather issues. No major changes. We did go away twice.once she stayed with my son , she loves his dog. The other time she went to the vet for two nights. She wasn't happy to be there, but this didn't stsrt right after that
  24. I have had Cozett one year this past February. when we first adopted her she had seperation anxiety. With behavior interventions and meds..she accepted being home alone. We faded the meds after a few months. Even looked forward to it knowing she was getting a treat. Recently she has started be anxious again. She is very attached to me..following me all the time. I walk and feed her..but she snuggles with my husband. She is a very social dog. I think a second dog would help her...she needs to be with someone all the time. We always had two, but she is so active and playful my husband is giving me a hard time; saying the house will be crazy. Today was very bad when I left for work..climbing on bay window, barking. I left and came back a few minutes later. She was a wreck, panting etc. thinking she was bored with the bull stick and gave her a different bone...restarting the departure routine. I heard her barking when I pulled out of the driveway, but no accidents or damage in the house. I have a call into my vet. She is off today, will call tomorrow. Any suggestions as to why this has re-emerged and how to handle it would be appreciated
