greysmom
We said Goodbye to our sweet Dorie Greyhound this morning. She had been very sick with severe IBD/PLE/Lymphangectesia, and, while we thought she was initially going to respond to treatment and bounce back, she took a turn for the worse last night. We knew it was time to let her go. Dorie was a return to our adoption group due to her former owner's having to take a new job in this sucky economy. It was obviously hard for her to do and she wrote a very touching letter all about Dorie and what a great dog she was. I saw her picture and heard her story soon after, but it took me a couple months to persuade DH that we needed a fifth dog. Once Dorie was home with us on November 11th 2010, she quickly changed his mind. She was without a doubt one the sweetest greyhounds I've ever met. She was really into eye contact and could stare at you intently for many minutes. Her ears went whichever way they wanted. She had the softest bunny fur - thick and fluffy all over her body. She liked to watch you sideways out of her eyes - it was the funniest thing but I was never able to capture it with a camera. She loved to be outside and just stand and sniff and smell and watch the world go by. She was into doing things once - and only once! Getting in the dog chair; getting on the people bed; playing with a toy; doing a flat out zoomy; roaching; eating a tomato; getting in the wading pool. She loved her food and her treats, except pig ears, which she didn't love at all. I don't remember when we started calling her Dorie Greyhound, but that was her nickname. She was a big girl - as big as our male Copper - and always knew what she wanted and how to get it. We had to learn to put away the trash can when we left, and pick up things off the counters. If you were petting her and you stopped too soon, she would lick your hand and arm until you started up again. Her tongue was so soft! (two things in this pic we don't have at our house anymore - Dorie and Dude's left leg - how weird) She could "sit" and "down" and "speak" on command, usually all three one after the other so she would be sure to get her treat. When she dreamed, her legs didn't run, she was always wagging her tale. That made me feel good, knowing that her dreams were full of happiness. We miss her so much. Run far and fast and free Dorie Greyhound. Find our Libby Girl there and the two of you spend the time waiting for us playing madly over the Bridge! We love you........
