Guest Naty
I am sorry you and Polli are going through this. I tend to agree with Aerosmom. I heard the same about the bone biopsy. Hoping for the best outcome.

RobinM
I spoke to the vet. Polli is resting comfortably. She agrees that to get her home ASAP is what we all want to do. She said IF they do the biopsy, they definitely need to keep her overnight tomorrow. So, minimun is Friday morning. I went over all my concerns and she did her best to answer me. It's weird how a 60 pound girlie can have so much of a presence. Even with my 3 here, the house is so quiet without Polli making her nightly cookie demands. I feel so disconnected. greyhndz
Sending the very brightest healing light to Polli and you, and hoping that your worst fears do not come to fruition. It really sounds as if Polli is in very capable hands. Immobilizing a proximal humerus (shoulder) fracture can be quite difficult, and although I think any of us would jump through hoops to keep our pups safe if they could only come home with us, if the orthopaedist can't adequately immobilize the fracture, not only would it be more painful for Polli, but she'd be at risk for the hairline fracture extending further. I'd imagine that if the bone is clean, Polli will need surgical stabilization of the fracture, but they need to know that they're working with healthy bone first. You just have to hold on until tomorrow, Robin, and you'll have more answers. You know this group of vets, you obviously have put your faith in them for a long time, and it sounds as if they're doing their best to protect Polli and keep her comfortable. for a quiet, pain-free night for both Polli and mum. Thank you. She is resting comfortably with a big pillow, comforter, a stuffy from the car and ...... DH took his shirt off in the middle of the waiting room for Polli to have with her so she would have one of us with her. I thought that was very sweet of him. Doc said that IF she does not need the biopsy, she would not need surgical intervention as the hairline would heal on it's on own, but obviously immobilized. We are going to have to make some major adjustments in our home, somehow, someway. HopeForHounds
Did they take an x-ray? From the little I understand, you might want to try to avoid the bone biopsy. I think Dr. Cuoto recommends a fine-needle aspirate, which is less invasive and has less chance of further damaging the bone. Sending lots of good thoughts for you and Polli. That is exactly what I was going to say. Dr Couto does not like the old way of taking a piece of bone, it can lead to instability. He recommends a fine needle aspirate for the above reason. If your vet has not done one get him to contact OSU's Greyhound Health and Wellness Program. They can send the films for a free consult. Let me know ifyou need anything. Sending lots of hugs and prayers.
