I've gotten her trained out of it in the kitchen, but have not had success with the end table in the living room. I eat and drink most of the time in the living room and put the plate/glass on the end table. I do not leave anything edible, but Gelsey keeps doing things like this morning, taking advantage of me going to the bathroom to grab the paper napkin that I was using as a coaster for my coffee cup. Usually, the worst result is a shredded napkin on the floor. But today, I heard a "clunk" and came back to a missing tv remote control. Search around the end table and under the sofa has not yet turned up anything. Did she just knock it off the table? Or did she carry it away because it had some slight scent of food clinging to it from my hand? I'm wondering about leaving some "bait" and trying to hide out of sight to catch her at it and create some aversion. In the meantime, please think good thoughts about a stiff-kneed and poor-visioned human trying to find where a clever houndie has left a remote control. I often have a chocolate muffin with my coffee. When finish I usually wad up the paper muffin cup into the napkin I'm using. LaVida then stalks my napkin until I'm distracted. After looking all over the house and out on the porch (one of the con's of having a dog door), I went fishing under the sofa with a long stick and swept it out. It was so far back I couldn't see it. (One of the downfalls of hardwood floors instead of carpet -- things slide.) Gelsey is like LaVida -- both fawns who look like elegant Grace Kellys. But I swear Gelsey was a brindle in another life. Set it on a used napkin, something you know she'll grab and place it at the edge of the end table. Hopefully the noise she creates pulling the loaded soda can off the table will startle her from doing it again.
