robinw
A few minutes ago I called Iker in from the backyard. It sounded like he was ignoring me and playing. I closed the door and heard a loud thud. Iker ran into the door. He seems ok. Is there anything I should be looking for, such as symptoms of head injury? Thanks. Guest DeniseL
OH NO!!! Poor baby!!! Izzy ran into the screen door a few weeks back. She just sort of bounced off of it, shook her head a few times. Then she wouldn't use the sliding door for a little while. It was kinda cute, actually, but then again, it was a screen and not thick glass hope he is ok!!!
Hubcitypam
Robin - go to the dollar store and get some of those cling on things that teachers use. I found some that were strips and they have worked very well on Comfort. I agree if he is acting OK he probably is. Not to scare you but my friend Susan had a huge beautiful blue grey named Kirby that she had owned several years. She had had the door open then closed it. Kirby saw something outside and charged the door. He broke his neck and died. Get some of those cling things.

MaryJane
Yes, there could be a serious head, neck, or back injury. Symptoms may not show up right away, it could take a few days. Watch for any change in behavior, pacing, and panting or in eating. Any changes in the way that he walks .. like listing to one side. Check every few hours to make sure that he responds to his name and he looks in your direction and appears to see you. Check his gums every few hours. Chances are he is OK but, any change in behavior warrants a trip to the vet for x-rays ...

Rickiesmom
Poor Iker - hope he's OK. My foxhound of many years ago did something similar - no ill effects but then again, he had a head made of cement.

Guest MnMDogs
This thread title made my heart sink. I'm glad he seems ok... A few weeks ago Macy May launched herself into the back of my car- before I opened the door, and is was pretty awful. We happened to be on the way to the vet and she checked her neck since Macy was favoring a front foot after that. Apparently neck injuries can manifest in limping on front feet. She had no ill effects aside from a sore neck, and she hit pretty hard. Hoping Iker is just fine,

Guest Rhea
Oh no!! Give Iker some gentle kisses for me, if he will take them. (All the advice given so far sounds good, so nothing to add, really.) ....also I named a pokemon after Iker, because the game wouldn't let me name it "Spike" (!?!?!?! Not sure what it is supposed to be censoring but whatever) So I sat there thinking, and then I decided 'Iker' was pretty close Edited November 8, 2013 by Rhea
tbhounds
My guys have done this before--my Stan took my slider screen out a couple of nights ago (and I have clingie things too!). If you have a NSAID you might want to start him on that for a few days-my guess is he'll be fine but, my be sore for a few days.

Chances are he is OK but, any change in behavior warrants a trip to the vet for x-rays ... Agreed. Keep a close eye on him for the next few days. Hopefully he'll be fine, but it's worth being extra vigilant for a while! I'm so lucky that our glass doors into the garden open into a small 'courtyard' area about 10 feet across and they have to make a right angle to get down the garden. There is no way they can charge full tilt into them because of the turn they have to make. Even so, they have both almost hit it a couple of times. We also have a glass door into the conservatory which they have to go through before they can get to the outside door. This one has several stickers on it at greyhound head height. Our first greyhound ran into it and bloodied his nose and it scared the pants off me - and that was before I heard of the several dogs I now know of that have broken their necks doing so. GeorgeofNE
No. When we moved to California with our two English Setters, one entire side of the house was glass. Before they got used to the idea, there was many a head bonk and no ill effects. Sadly, they also made their own doggy door within minutes by running through the screen! They did it so many times we gave up and just left it flapping on one door. Quote Susan, Hamish, Mister Bigglesworth and Nikita Stanislav.
