Prince Is At The Bridge. A Special Non-Greyhound

Prince was a special boy. A huge 120 pound German Shepherd who saved my mom's life. A couple of years ago, he suddenly stopped playing, lost his hair, refused to eat and lost thirty pounds in just some weeks. She took him to 2 vets several times and then a specialist who said there was nothing wrong with Prince and that she should get a check up. She did and it turned out she had stage one pancreatic cancer. This kind of cancer is usually never discovered in stage one because there are no symptoms that early. She had only had an occasional stomach upset but really no serious pain yet. She had surgery which removed the cancer completely and did not even need chemo because it had not had a chance to spread anywhere else yet. She is cancer free. As soon as she came home from the surgery, Prince started eating and playing again. He knew she had cancer but just did not know how to tell her. We are so grateful to him and to the vet specialist who truly understood how smart dogs could be. He will be so missed. He was her medical service dog and by her side 24/7. He was only 7 years young. Just this morning he showed signs of having trouble breathing. She took him to the vet but it was too late. He was in complete heart failure and his lungs were completely filled with fluid. I know Elton was waiting for him at the bridge. They were the best of friends. Always snuggling together. I'm so worried about my mom. She is so lost without her Prince.

Not Prince! I'm so sorry, Ingrid. I can't imagine how heartbroken your mom must be. We really loved having him come to our picnic. He was truly an amazing dog.

So sorry it was his time to leave your mother. :f_red

Gentle hugs to all of you who loved her charming Prince.

(How intuitive of the vet to suggest that Prince may have sensed something wrong with his beloved mama.)
