Guest WhiteWave Posted April 2, 2012 Share Posted April 2, 2012 LJ wasn't my dog, but I think I sometimes did more with him than his owners. They got LJ not long after I moved here about 11 yrs ago. He was a cute pup and grew into a fine dog. He was used for hunting and lived outside. Which was good as long as he had his dog friends and got to go hunting regularly. Then the hunting trips got fewer and fewer. The other dogs died off or got so bored, they dug out of the yard and Animal control got them. His puppies died. But ol' LJ hung on. He never saw a vet, ate bottom of the barrel cheapest crap you can by food. I suspect he had heartworms based on his symptoms. Late stage w/ heart failure. I begged for the past year for them to have him put down. He swelled w/ fluids so bad last summer, I thought he was going to pop. That combined with him being so lonely, he spent a lot of time with us. He loved to come spend the night with his buddies. He would curl up on the couch with Casper. They were best friends. LJ was a gentle soul (unless you were a hog or a cat). I'm glad he is gone and not suffering, but I'm going to miss him. He was good friend. Some pics of him over the last year. While the stories of the loss of beloved hounds that we read here are heartwrenching, we all take comfort in knowing that our hounds knew how loved they were.....and when I read about a dog who was not appreciated in the way that dogs deserve to be, it is just heartbreaking. That being said, thanks to you, beautiful LJ did have the joy of knowing love - despite the fact that it wasn't from his own family. He had one of those sweet gentle scent hound faces....bless his heart.....
