TheFullHouse Posted January 28, 2012 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We had to say goodbye to our sweet, brave Saint this morning. Funny how you wake up and you think the day is starting normally and then something happens to shatter your world. Saint woke up this morning without the use of his back legs. Mike is out of town so Kevin went with me to the vet. He had to pick Saint up and carry him for me. Poor Saint, he was always so stoic and never showed any signs of pain but upon examination of x-rays of his back we discovered he had several ruptured discs in the lower half of his back that the body had tried to heal and stabilize on it's own and 3 ruptured discs in his neck. He must have been in horrible pain and never, ever let us know it. My option was to give him steroids and hope he regained the use of his back legs but with the amount of damage he had chances are it would happen again and he would be in pain so I with his head lying in my lap I let my beautiful, brave boy go. What a boy our Saint was. We worked together to concur the seizure monster and succeeded. We got his seizures under control with medication and from that day forward every day was an adventure to him. He carried the scars of his seizures but he did not let anything get him down. Life was an adventure to our boy. It's what we loved most about him. He lived every single day to the fullest. If he wanted something he let you know about it. He was extremely verbal when he wanted attention or to go outside. He couldn't stand for me to talk on the phone. He would start to carry on so that I would let him outside and once outside he would take of his muzzle and eat poop. He was very clever in some ways and then acted dumb in others. I honestly think he was smarter than any of us ever knew. The last picture I got of our boy. Godspeed my big, beautiful, sweet, brave Saint. You were loved more than you will ever know. Your absence is now felt in every corner of the house. Find Emmy, Andy, Heart and Gee, they're waiting for you. I think my heart has broken into a million pieces.
