  1. I was nervous to open the thread for the latest update but am so relieved to find good news. Glad your boy continues to live life to the fullest. A miracle hound for sure! Scritches to him and Face.
  2. Thinking of you all on this sad anniversary.
  3. I have a crazy sensitive sense of smell too, and occasionally I do get a whiff of not-so-fresh from Sweep. She can be a bit stinky after coming in from a walk (and they don't sweat like we do, so I don't know why!), but it dissipates quickly. I have also noticed if she gets too much fish oil I can smell it on her. Any chance that's the case for your girl? Other random thought: does she groom herself like a cat? Sweep has good teeth but somewhat funky breath, and sometimes when she's been licking I can smell it on her fur. She gets a bath every 2-3 months and that works for us. Every 3 weeks seems like a lot, so I'm glad you're seeing the vet soon to rule out anything medical. In any event, you're not alone in the super-smeller club.
  4. I am so sorry for this terribly sad start to the new year, and for your other recent losses too. Rest well, handsome Diego.
  5. How scary. Glad Davis is doing so much better!
  6. Whoa, full house today! Ryder's such a good boy.
  7. I can't see the photo even when logged into FB, but congratulations on your new addition!
  8. Here's a good source for kennel muzzles (and proceeds go toward greyhound adoption): http://www.gemgreyhounds.org/GEM-Store/kennel-muzzle/ Good luck to you and Marco. He's gorgeous!
  9. Sending good thoughts for your girl. Glad she is home, as I know you must be!
  10. I'm so sorry for your loss. Rest well, Noelle.
  11. Some of this sounds like Ryder's symptoms, which turned out to be a bulging disc. Hopefully XTRAWLD will see this and weigh in!
  12. Beautiful little girl! Congrats to all, and welcome to Hannah!
  13. Agree with the above. Your situation sounds a lot like ours when we first brought Sweep home: we lived in a townhouse with no fenced yard, had two cats but no dog experience as adults, I work from home, and we're a quiet, no-kid household. We took her for three walks (15-45 minutes) daily and a short bedtime potty break, and that met her exercise needs just fine. On weekends when weather permitted we'd take her to a fenced baseball field where we didn't have to worry about interactions with other dogs, and she'd run like crazy for a couple minutes and be done. We bought a house with a yard after two years (motivated in part by her), but even now we have pretty much the same schedule; the only difference is she gets to have zoomies in her own yard a couple of times a week. If you haven't spoken to an adoption group or attended a meet and greet yet, I highly recommend it. We talked to a group for a while and then dipped our toes in the water. Sweep's foster needed a sitter over Thanksgiving, so we did that first; then we took over fostering her; then we fostered with intent; and, finally, we adopted her. The group was wonderfully patient with us and understood our nervousness as first-time adopters. If you're able to do something similar, it's very helpful. Dog ownership is a lifestyle adjustment for sure, but it's incredibly rewarding!
  14. Static was my first thought too. If she's food motivated, try giving plenty of treats when the Thundershirt comes out so she forms a positive association.
  15. Sorry this happened while you're away! No personal experience with happy tail here, but you might pass along Grassmere's happy tail bandaging instructions to the kennel: http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/happy_tail_bandaging.htm.
  16. Keeping you on your toes, I see! Is he still doing well? Did you cancel his consult?
