  1. With a spooky girl you might have more success taking her to a fully fenced ball field where she can run without the stress of other dogs sniffing her or potential for scuffles. We did that for the first 18 months we had Sweep since we lived in a townhouse with no fenced yard. She could run like crazy for a few minutes and we didn't have to worry about her getting snarky with other dogs (she's not spooky, but she's a breed snob, so dog parks are definitely out for us). Good luck!
  2. I'm so sorry. We've lost so many recently. Rest well, Lady.

  6. Wow, he is gorgeous! He has big shoes to fill but looks up to the task. Congrats!
  7. Target's Threshold brand has some decent rugs. We have this runner in the hall and this accent rug under the food/water bowls and at the back door; they're both latex-backed and machine washable, and no hardwood damage so far. There are some larger Threshold area rugs too, but I'm not sure what they're backed with. We have several 5x8 wool rugs from West Elm and always use a thick felted rug pad under them because the super-thin, grid-textured pads *have* damaged our floors in the past. The felted ones feel so much nicer, keep the rug in place better, and are worth the extra money in my opinion. They do contain rubber/latex but I've used them for years with no issues.
  8. Thanks, Ducky. I'm so very sorry.
  9. Ducky, could you add Hester? His tribute is in Everything Else. Another one lost to osteo.

  14. You or she might try posting on the Greyhound Sitters Exchange page on Facebook (you'll have to join the group first to post there): https://www.facebook.com/groups/362259110628359/
  15. Thanks for the report, and I'm glad to hear it worked! Sweep doesn't mind fireworks too much (knock on wood), but her thunderphobia is pretty bad. We finally got her a Thundershirt a couple of weeks ago which seems to help a bit, but I'm filing this info away just in case. Also, my vet posted on Facebook about Sileo the other day, so I know they're carrying it and it'll probably be tried on many Nashville-area greyhounds this weekend.
  16. We've had to skip mid-day walks altogether lately. It's been in the 90s and very humid--not pleasant for hounds or humans. If we even attempt to walk Sweep, she plops right down in the front yard and can't be budged. Even our morning and evening walks are no more than 10-15 minutes (maybe half a mile) in the summer months. It's just not worth the risk as far as I'm concerned. We try to make up for it with more car rides and trips to pet-friendly stores, and as soon as temps drop we'll build back up to longer walks again.
  17. Glad you found a place for the food he's on! Does Amazon not sell it? That might be a backup plan for you. Their "subscribe and save" program is pretty handy.
