Nevermind.

We use Bravecto (oral flea and tick protection given every 12 weeks) and have had no ill effects. Our biggest issue is that Sweep hates the taste so it can be challenging to give.

I have not seen any mention of a communicator on the Music City Greyhound Adoption Facebook page or their Yahoo group. If you have a specific recommendation, please feel free to post it on their Facebook page. It's a public page and linked above in my update, and they're very responsive.

Anaya (lovely name) sounds like Miss Personality! I've only had one grey myself so don't have a ton of experience to offer, but I wonder if #3 is reverse sneezing. Sweep does it occasionally too and I've never worried too much about it. Sometimes vigorously rubbing her throat makes it pass more quickly.

Not yet. She finished her month of antibiotics and is now in her "no meds" month to build up her strength a little more before getting her first heartworm treatment on April 15. It being Nashville, a local musician has offered to put on a benefit concert for her, which takes place on April 4. In the meantime, she is doing great! Coming out of her shell more and more, it sounds like (even roaching!), and her weight is almost where it should be. Here are some pics from the past couple of weeks (sorry they're huge--pasting from the adoption group's Facebook page).

I understand how stressful and frustrating (not to mention embarrassing) this can be. Sweep is mostly fine with greyhounds, but reacts to other breeds much like how Kash does. It has only worsened with age, so I just avoid them as much as possible now by crossing the street or walking her in off-peak hours. Other than that, I practice "watch me" with her and carry treats on walks to try to distract her before she gets worked up.

"Leave it," "come," "go to bed," "kennel up" (if you crate), "watch me" or "look at me." Sweep's very good at "sit," but I wouldn't force it for a grey that doesn't ever do it naturally or seems uncomfortable in that position. A favorite here is "roach," which started out being silly but actually comes in handy when we dremel Sweep's nails. She just rolls right over onto her back and we do her nails upside down.

Probably goes without saying, but make sure the area rug has a non-skid backing or is secured with carpet tape--if it slips, you'll probably do more harm than good!

Sweep went through this in the fall (here's my post about it), except going down instead of up. Our stairs already had a runner, so we added a small area rug at the top, and almost immediately she seemed to feel more confident "launching" off down the stairs. As someone said in my thread, sometimes they need a little "reset," maybe because they slipped and now have a negative association. In your case, I'd keep working with him with super high-value treats and a short leash. A harness is ideal if you have one; you can go back to Stair Training 101 by holding the harness like a suitcase handle and walking him up. Some other helpful threads are here and here. Good luck!

It's been a few years since I've used it, but when Sweep was newly adopted I used the free version of the Presence app. I set up my iPad as the camera at home and I monitored her on my iPhone. According to the website, it now works with Android devices as well.

Sounds like he is doing really well to me! Do you have an app on your phone where you could watch him when you're away? Might give you peace of mind. I work from home, so we are never gone for more than 4 hours either. Sweep often watches us leave and is there watching at the door when we get home, but I'm quite sure she's on her bed for most of the time in between. Do you have any pictures of Ollie? We'd love to see him!

What Cynthia said! I worried so much before adopting Sweep (mainly about how she'd do with our two cats). She had just turned three and had been fostered for a few months. All went very smoothly and I felt silly for wasting so much mental energy. If you hit some bumps, you'll find all the info you need here and your adoption group will always be a resource. Please keep us posted--and we'd love to see pictures, of course.
