Darlin - Hello Jackiegirl

I sent Darlin to the bridge this morning after learning she had osteo. She had just started limping Friday and I really thought she had just stepped wrong and hurt her ankle. I so wanted to bring her home for one more day but doing so offered no good outcome for Darlin. So, I held her with love and whispered I would love her forever. as she began her journey among the stars.

I first met Darlin when she, Alpo and Cutie came to the racing kennel in December of 1999. They all had been sick on the hauler and were so scared. I fell in love with them instantly. Her owners lived in Florida and had never sent their dogs so far away from home before, so Esther and I emailed every week during their career. Darlin was named for their Daughter, Jackie, who had passed away much too young. Esther would always ask, how are my babies. Darlin was a fine, fine racer - I loved watching her run. When her career ended in April of 2002 there was no doubt she would join her brother Alpo who had just been home a couple of months.

Darlin was my sweet, quiet, gentle, amber eyed little girl.. I’ll miss her sweet kisses. When she was 9 she learned to take the toilet paper roll off the wall, eat just enough to capture the cardboard and devour every bit of it. She could steal a piece of paper from the printer quicker than a blink of the eye. I called it her second childhood.

Having littermates is wonderful and I feel so sad that for the first time in their lives Darlin won't be with them. They truly loved each other so much. I know they will miss her as much as I do already. Survey is going to be lost without her too. They were best of pals.

Godspeed my precious Darlin, until we meet again.

Ann

So sad. I am very sorry for your loss. Darlin sounds like she was such a special girl.

Take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, pain free and running once again with the wind.

Oh, Ann! I'm so very sorry to hear this - you know I've always adored your tribe and enjoyed crossing paths with them and you over the years. Rest assured, Darlin found plenty of Lambert houndies to greet her at the Bridge.

Hug Alpo and Cutie for me, as well as yourself, dear lady.

Darlin...that's what I call my girls (and sometimes, the boys) when I'm loving on them. Your Darlin sounded like a special girl and I'm so sorry it all came on so quickly. Rest well Darlin. :grouphug
