  1. So sorry that Peggy had to leave you; she was loved from afar by many and will be missed. Several of your excellent Peggy pictures have been "snatched" over the years; they will be especially treasured now that she has gained her wings. Sending healing thoughts from across the pond in the flatlands of Kansas, USA. Annie
  2. Welcome back! I've been around since 2001 or so, and although I don't specifically recall the story about the coyote dog pups, I do remember that photo of Lulu with the peanut butter jar. She was a gorgeous girl. Hope your foster-adopting experience comes to be and goes well!
  3. Even though Halfway Home has been winding down for awhile, it's still sad to see this chapter of the greyhound world close its doors. A heartfelt thanks for the years of friendship and the greyhounds that have graced my home and couch since 2010, either coming directly from Tulsa or an Abilene farm, with Teddy's blessings. At the Bridge: B's Miss Thang (Tango), Mister Moose (Moose), JW Titleist (Tidy), B's Dealornodeal (Della), Fiesty Hound (Fiesty), Odd Mystery (Mystery), and Eyes on the Cash (Cash). And still holding down the floors and furniture: Mohican Top Dog (Topper) and Coach Heather (Hattie). Wishing all the best to Teddy and Russ as they open and navigate a new chapter in their lives!
  4. W-a-y too young, but sadly, the monster that is osteo doesn't seem to have much respect for age - young or old, it haunts all. I recently lost one that was barely nine - again, too young. Your girl sounds like she was a corker. There's something awfully special about broodies - the vast majority of the greyhounds we've adopted over the last two decades were retired broodies. Bless you for giving her a loving home. Gentle hugs to you and yours. Perhaps Bakin will tap your shoulder one day and whisper in your ear that opening your home and heart to another retired momma dog would do her proud.
  5. A reminder "plug" for the upcoming June event in Abilene, Kansas - - - This gathering has been around in various format or fashion since the late 1990's. And although Kansas is seldom considered as a "destination vacation" state; nevertheless, it does have one thing that should be of interest to all who have adopted a retired (or perhaps flunked!) racing greyhound: Abilene - home of the National Greyhound Association and multiple greyhound farms from which your beloved dog may have originated. Hands down, there's no better greyhound gathering than Abilene for the educational experience of discovering how that upside-down, roaching dog(s) holding down furniture began his or her journey to YOUR loving home! It's not too late to plan an excursion to the Heart of America Greyhound Gathering on June 21-25, 2017. Details and registration information can be found on the website of Halfway Home Greyhound Adoption. Check it out! www.halfwayhomegreyhounds.com/gathering.html Annie Lambert, Benton (wichita area), Kansas (a veteran adopter & greyhound aficionado since 1994)
  6. Complete details and registration information can be found at www.halfwayhomegreyhounds.com. Plenty of activities - a chance to visit the National Greyhound Association and go on farm tours to learn how your beloved greyhound(s) started his/her life. Usually puppies can be seen (and snuggled) at one of the farms! There will be a live auction (with a very entertaining auctioneer, Robert Bacon), multiple vendors, games, etc. Proceeds to benefit Teddy Palmer's Halfway Home Greyhounds program in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Please consider putting Abilene, Kansas, on your greyhound event list for 2017 and check the Halfway Home website for further details! Annie Lambert, long-time supporter (and greyhound adopter) of Halfway Home
  7. Mary, I never connected your GT name with you until just now. It was most definitely a pleasure to see you and Jaynie last weekend and meet Vonnie. Looks like all is going well in her new home. Hugs all around for your fur family! Annie Lambert
  8. Sincere and heartfelt condolences on the loss of Huston. If memory serves me correctly (and as time ticks by, the gray matter is getting more unreliable!), I believe I had the pleasure of meeting him in Abilene quite some time ago. Hopefully, the pain of his passing will, in due course, be tempered by the many wonderful memories you have of his life with you. Hugs, dear lady! Annie Lambert Benton (Wichita area), Kansas
  9. Jeremy & Val - Sincere condolences to you from all of us back in the flatlands of Kansas who knew your beautiful Diamond "back when." Hope there's comfort in knowing she had a wonderful life with you and, perhaps, one of these days, her paw will touch your shoulder and whisper in your ear, hinting that giving another grey a loving home would be a stellar way to honor her memory. Hugs for the two of you, and ones for Cash and Lucy, too. Annie Lambert
  10. More white light from Kansas coming your way. Wish I could say we've been strangers to OS; unfortunately, w-a-y too much experience in our 20+ years of greyhound addiction. Thinking of you, Jeremy, Diamond, Lucy & the big boy, Cash. Hugs all around, extra ones for Diamond, of course. Annie Lambert
  11. Oh, goodness! Sending white light that direction from your fellow (former) greyhound addicts in the flatlands of Kansas! Hugs for her, Cash and Lucy, too. Annie Lambert
  12. Ah, Val! I feel for you - hang in there! We had the same thing back in November with a new resident "galoot" - 85+ pounds, bouncy, doofus, standing in the wrong lines when gracefulness and brains were being handed out - and he was EIGHT years old!!! He ran into/over/on top of everybody else; finally, somebody took high exception to that, growled deepley, nipped (no serious damage inflicted) and things settled down. Time and patience, my friend. Annie Lambert
  13. Oh, damn, damn, damn! His Kansas aunties feel your pain, too. Many the sweet memories soon overshadow the hurt now filling your hearts. Hugs for the girls, and we're thinking of you back here. Annie Lambert
  14. For what's it worth - brewer's yeast is often one of the additives, along with canned vegetables, fruits, dry kibble, etc., to the meat mixture fed to greys, both in the racing kennel and on the farm. Hence, the fascination with bread that some dogs develop. Like someone indicated earlier, getting a slice of bread out of the sack is definitely more tempting than cheese to a couple of the dogs that live here! Annie Lambert (metro Wichita, KS, area)
  15. Ah, drat! Valerie, I'm so very, very sorry to hear this. He's a sweetheart, and all of his former Kansas "aunties" will keep him in our thoughts. Spoil that Gabers rotten, take lots of pictures and cherish the time you're alloted with him (never enough, is it?). Andy and I have been there, done that w-a-y more times since the mid-1990's than we care to count... Annie Lambert
  16. Heartfelt condolences from a greyhound aficionado in Kansas, who has been there, done that more times than I choose to count. Brandee most definitely had a well-loved and well-lived tenure with your family. I undoubtedly speak for many when I say thank you for sharing her life stories and fantastic pictures on GT. May the pain of her passing soon be tempered by the many sweet memories of her. Annie Lambert
  17. Oh, my goodness! This makes my 7-day loss interval experienced years ago seem rather trivial. That was gawd-awful; I can't even begin to fathom two devasting emotional hits in one day - more than enough to make one a viable candidate for the "rubber room!!" Sending good thoughts that your pain will soon be tempered by sweet memories of both who had to leave you so swiftly and unexpectedly...may they run together, healthly and happy, once again... Annie Lambert
  18. Oh, Ann! I'm so very sorry to hear this - you know I've always adored your tribe and enjoyed crossing paths with them and you over the years. Rest assured, Darlin found plenty of Lambert houndies to greet her at the Bridge. Hug Alpo and Cutie for me, as well as yourself, dear lady. Annie Lambert
  19. Oh, how very, very sad! She and Gil were in St. Joseph, Missouri, last May at Sylvia Petit's grey get-together, and several of us from the Wichita area had the pleasure of seeing them again. There will never be another greyhounder quite like Kathleen; that mold was broken many years ago. My heart goes out to Gil for the loss of his longtime love and companion. I do hope he has a chance to read this thread someday, and like many of you, I have a heart-warming mental picture of Kathleen, virtually "mobbed" by her own beloved angel houndies and scads of others as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Annie Lambert
  20. Tim & Eva, so very sorry to hear about Bailey. I trust you can find some comfort in the knowledge that she had a good, long run with you guys and was much loved and cherished. By now, she's undoubtedly found her brother, Bold Carrier, and they are romping together once again. Long-distance hugs from the Kansas contingent that sent Carrier your way so many years ago... Annie Lambert
  21. For what it's worth, one of the commands I heard used by trainers in the race kennels (at the now-closed Wichita track) was "release." Have tried it on mine, with varying degrees of success. Annie Lambert Benton, KS (metro Wichita area)
  22. Another welcome from Kansas! I had a pleasure of meeting HWH Memory last February when three of us greyhound addicts from the Wichita area journeyed to Teddy's kennel. The purpose of our trip was to take a "failed foster" back to her for vetting. Of course, we met all the resident dogs and got generously "sanded" in the turnout pen, something sadly missed since the Wichita track closed in late 2007. Memory was one of the residents, and if I recall correctly, was rather shy at the time. Since then, I've personally failed fostering with one of Teddy's dogs, so a chance to see her and the current crop of kennel critters may be just over the horizon! Your name sounds familiar...perhaps we've crossed paths at Abilene, or maybe the recognition comes from your association with Teddy, who I've known for over a decade. In any event, hugs for that downright handsome fellow, OK? And the others, too! Annie Lambert Benton, Kansas
  23. A well-loved furkid and a well-lived life...we should all be so lucky! Hugs for you, Jeff and the rest of the crew. Annie Lambert
  24. Is it just my computer, or are certain navigation buttons missing in the mobile version? For example, Cute and Funny contains over 200 pages. Clicking on C&F brings up the first page of topics, but once I get to the bottom, don't see a button to get to the second page and beyond. Same thing seems to be the case for the individual topics with multiple pages. Opening a topic brings up the first post, scrolling down to read gets me to the bottom, then there is no way to get to the next page. Perhaps this is one of those kinks you're still ironing out; nevertheless, wanted to mention it. As others have said, kudos and many thanks for all you do for the USA and for this outstanding board, which is a constant source of information and entertainment! Annie Lambert
  25. First foray to the mobile version shows the essential data is present - the posts and the pictures. Does appear that it will take a few extra clicks to get back to anything other than the immediate topic at hand. The top menu that gave forums doesn't show now. While I have you "on the line," so to speak, please define Warn Status. Should I be checking over my shoulder to see if the HMFIC (and yes, I do know exactly what that means!) is lurking with a wooden ruler, fixin' to rap my knuckles? Having been a legal assistant for 20+ years, I've pretty much learned to "engage brain before opening big yap." Consequently, I can't imagine that in the less two dozen posts made, anything was said to raise red flags or land me in hot water! Perhaps it has to do with lack of activity? Annie Lambert
