Kerry, so sorry to see Merlin has been experiencing this. Hope you had good results from the vet visit and that he will be on the mend quickly.

Thanks everyone :( it breaks my heart to see my wizard like this :cry1 but I'm trying to stay rational (not that easy after getting no sleep last night). We were at the vet's when they opened, Merlin's (grey-savvy) vet Dr. Katie Xan see him at 10am. We are a home now buy will be heading back out in 30 minutes. Merlin pooped more blood outside the vet's, and a few minutes ago on the couch, poor baby. He pooped himself too, just now, I've been trying to clean him up and doing a horrible job.

I've never seen him this bad. As I told Amber on the phone this morning, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw all that blood shooting out of his rear end :ohno

Thank you for your continued good thoughts...

I was just about to post the same about Dustin! Gurgly stomach, non-interest in food. Hasn't gotten the bloody diarreah yet....but I know it's coming...he has the same symptoms every one or two months. In the past the vet has thought it's a bug, but I am going to bring a sample today to have another fecal done.

Give Merlin a hug from all of us!!

Robin, what does your vet do when this happens? Flagyl fixes Soul right up, but we haven't had this happen since I relented and started keeping him on the all I/D diet. Before, everytime I tried to put him back on 'regular' food he would start bleeding internally again and have to go back on the Flagyl. His first sign of relapse was always gurgly tummy as well. We gave up on stool samples since they never showed anything.

Yes...she puts him on the Metronodiazole (which I guess is Flagyl) and it does help. I am suspect that he needs an I/D diet. It's happened too often for it to simply be him picking up a virus or infection. What's wierd is that there are certain foods that he wants....he won't eat his breakfast or his biscuits, but when I pulled out a piece of plain cheese he looked ravenous. Obviously, I don't want to give him much of anything right now.

Wondering if Merlin is in the same boat.

Oh no! I didn't come on last night and am just seeing all this. So worried about the wizard, but at least he's in good hands now, and I know you have Amber to lean on who has so much experience with this. I'll be checking in frequently! :candle

Just to add for anyone who might find it reassuring information, Beth is now on all I/D like Soul, at least for the time being (not due to HGE, but what has probably been a chronic low-grade pancreatitis we finally -- fortunately! -- diagnosed a month ago). Despite my reservations, I have to say she is doing wonderfully on it -- loves it, has plenty of energy, has good (much smaller!) poop, and it's made her coat unbelievably silky. So don't be afraid if your vet wants him to go on it when the acute phase of this passes.

Kerry I feel just awful about what Merlin is going through. Please consider giving him Manuka honey in addition to what your vet prescribes for him. It has been proven to be effective in treating IBD and has shown to help in cases of colitis and Chron's (sp?) disease. It could very well make the difference between having to not keep him on foods like I/D long term.

I will be keeping you and the Wizard in my thoughts and hoping for a quick recovery.

Hi Anne :wave I was wondering how Beth was doing on the I/D. So glad to hear it's agreeing with her.

Just heard from Kerry . . . . Merlin needs to stay at the vets for the afternoon (and possibly the night :o ) and receive fluids. Suspected HGE, like we all thought. She is on her way home now to get some rest but she wanted me to extend HUGE thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts and wishes :blush We all know how much she loves her Wizard. She goes back at five to pick him up and/or see if he needs to be transferred to the E-vet for the night. Please keep those good thoughts coming that that is KNOT the case and he will be able to go home tonight.

Poor Merlin. The fluids should perk him up and the Flagyl hopefully kick the poop out of the problem! (sorry blush.gif). You rest Kerry, I know he's going to be okay now. It'll feel strange not having him at home I know. Hugs to Merlin k?
