Guest Joyce_N_DaBoyz
What a week. Eagle is hanging in there with his cancer and seems comfortable although getting skinnier by the day. At least Jester is supposed to be my healthy boy. I guess he felt left out. At 1am Tues night Jester was pacing and panting like crazy and I thought he had bloat and took him to the EVet. I guess they thought I was being a worrywart the first time (I've never even gone to an emergency clinic before so I'm NOT a hypochondriac!) and he was just in some pain they gave him a shot for... I made them do an xray for bloat but they were right, no bloat. At 5am he was panting like he was going to toss his lungs! Rushed him back at breakneck speed and the vet was now officially freaked out, he had 106+ temp and had to be in a cooling bath and sedated on IVs and with a trach tube to stabilize until my vet opened at 8. My vet did more xrays and he had/has an acute asthma attack that almost killed him and was in oxygen tent all day and treated with various stuff while I was off trying to teach classes on no sleep. Transfered him back to the EVet clinic for the night. My vet and the vets there consulted for about an hour and they heard a sudden onset grade 3 heart murmur that wasn't there earlier so they did an echocardiogram. The echo came out clear (apparently all the vets thought they'd find a heart tumor and that there would be a 50/50 chance he'd even make it through the night) and he came prancing/wiggling out to meet me the next morning. Back to my vet for Thursday and Friday and hooked up to an EKG that was reading alright. While I was off taking my class on a 15 hour field trip yesterday Jester coughed up a stomach full of black blood mid-day and xrays showed he has either a tumor, ulcer, or foreign body in there. Dr. Andy was able to hold off on surgery until today so that I could visit him this morning just in case, so this afternoon he'll be having surgery. Please keep Jess in your thoughts! tbhounds
I wonder if the heart murmur they had heard was because of the IV fluids that they were giving him. Were you giving any of the NSAIDS?? They can most certainly cause a tummy ulcer. Waiting for a positive update .

Guest Joyce_N_DaBoyz
Good grief! I'm so sorry to hear about Jester. I'm sending healing thoughts his way. He is such a sweet , sweet boy. edited to add my favorite pic of Jester taken at Sandy Paws. I love that photo, thank you! I was in for the surgery. He had to have a spleenectomy and has a pancreatic ulcer that cannot be resected due to location (right over the bile duct) but at least it didn't require a decision to euth at this point and he survived the surgery. Now if he makes it through the next couple of days then we'll work to see if we can get the ulcer healed up with drugs. It should take a week to get results on the spleen biopsy.
