  1. Not correct on the DES -- it can be fatal and you need to monitor thru blood work. Yes UTIs can be missed. I always try a round of clavamox. You will know in 3 or 4 days if infection is the problem. Also, symptoms you describe can be caused by dog food.
  2. I have not read the entire thread. Try Nature's Variety, Prarie Beef & Rice kibble
  3. Try Prairie beef kibble. Looks like you can buy it at Concord Pet supply and I saw one Petco http://www.naturesvariety.com/locator
  4. Sending my sympathy I love the big boys.....their hearts are as big as they are.
  5. Many say you should rotate protein. Supposedly (because I have not tried it) Prairie is one you can rotate cold turkey (or should I say cold beef, lamb or chicken?)
  6. I would not flame you However, that is what everyone said the last time they had a problem. Apparently they don't learn. It's very sad because they produce so many different brands. I believe Solid Gold pulled out of the Diamond facility.
  7. I sent some emails on brands I like and asked where their foods are made (forgot BilJac -- I'll have to check) replies: Dear Ms. Jackson, Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the Breeder's Choice line of products. I am very happy to say that our products are produced at our own facility in Irwindale, California. I hope this information has been helpful. If you have additional questions, please respond to this email. If you would like to speak by phone, I am available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Central time. 1-866-500-6286. Sincerely, Erica Consumer Response Representative ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Diane, Thank you for e-mailing! Our products are all manufactured here in the U.S. – kibble in Texas through Pied Piper or CJ Foods in Kansas. Sincerely, Shannon Consumer Relations Nature's Variety 1-888-519-7387 www.naturesvariety.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Diane, Thanks for your question, it’s a great one! Castor & Pollux is a relatively small company and since the cost of building our own facility would be prohibitive we use approved co-packers to produce food to our specifications. Our dry foods are made at CJ Foods, a certified organic facility in Kansas. Our canned foods are made by Simmons and Performance Pet, also certified organic producers.
  8. I am a firm beleiver they eat what they need. Find some chicken or beef on sale and boil it and feed it with rice or potatoes. Cheaper than the canned and they will usually eat it. Pancur -- I use the granules and mix it with canned food. I have also put it in peanut butter and yogurt. There doesn't seem to be a taste with it (at least the granules).
  9. Unless you have personal experience, I don't see how you can comment. I have 15 years experience with alternative medicine, and chiropractic & acupuncture work. They cannot cure cancer, there are limitations and many times you need to work with western medicine. It's interesting to see conventional medicine vets turn the corner when they see the results. Like other veterinarians, there are good & bad alternative vets.
  10. Several times. As you know it can be life threatening. Jodie did well on a home cooked diet (she also had IBD and a pancreatic insuffiency). Shadow was eating SG Holistique Blendz and I have no idea why he ended up with pancreatitis. It's a low fat food. Jodie had chronic pancreatitis before I started cooking and before the insuffiency was diagnosed. Shadow had it the one time and it almost killed him. I believe the only thing that saved him is we were aggressive with treatment (antibiotics, which many say doesn't help & fluids and npo for several days) and acupuncture (which I know saved his life). I'd opt for a low fat food. How old is he?

What a shock. Sending my sympathy It's so hard.....
  12. I'd do the endoscopy and get a consult with a good internist.

    Overtime "toby"

Sending my sympathy You tried, he tried -- many times it's just not up to us
  14. Will do. Did they do a culture? What dog food are you feeding?
  15. That's what I thought after their last recall. Because they manufacture so many different brands, it's going to have a larger affect than some of the other foods that are manufactured elsewhere.
  16. Forgot about Fromm. Good food. From Nature's Variety which is Prairie kibble:
  17. At this point, anything I feed I am going to feel comfortable with whoever is manufacturing the product. Look at Organix, Prairie & Honest Kitchen. I used to feed Nutro and their products went to he** in a hand basket over time. When big companies buy out the good small companies, the quality never stays the same. I've emailed Breeder's Choice & Caster Pollex which was just bought out by Merrick
  18. Good grief it sounds like Tootsie. Her idea was to escape thru the mirror or just go somewhere else. She left the windows alone because I think she was smart enough to know it wasn't where she wanted to go. Any thunderstorms when this first started?
  19. I don't think 14 people suffereing samonella poisoning is getting all worked up. That is only what has been documented. Usually the cases reported are 5-10% of what has happened. I would not bake the kibble for the reason stated above. There is already enough nutrients cooked out in kibble. I would feed it or return it. Some of the recall is not 3 weeks old and still escalating. I hate kibble. I feed kibble.
  20. Butt sniffs are greyhound hellos.....your guy sounds perfectly normal to me also.
  21. Wow....poor her and poor you! Is she getting something for her stomach?
