Grey Pup (4/9)

  1. I am so sorry...George has been one of my all time favorites on here.
  2. Pam, I am sorry to hear about Poodle. It never gets any easier.
  3. I had to use a belly band with my boy too. Instead of using a diaper I would by the nighttime super absorbent Maxi Pads. I got some funny looks buying them in bulk, but it worked and the adhesive strip was helpful keeping it in place. I would just peel and stick to the band and then wrap it and put the band on him. We never had any issues with diaper rash or irritation.
  4. My two were always on Eukanuba because of Red's stomach issues and soft stools. Year before last I switched them over to Sam's Club Excel Chicken and Rice...no issues, they loved it. I think at the time it was $32 for a 40 lb bag. As long as they liked it, were healthy, and most important had good poo...I was happy.
  5. I am so sorry. Even without having a grey right now, I still check in to get my fix. The Bean has always been my favorite honorary greyhound. I loved every picture and story that you have shared. I am sure I am not the only one sharing the tears with you...she will be dearly missed!
  6. My bridge girl buried her poop. I gave up on grass in the backyard and put pea gravel down. She would methodically cover her poop with her nose, sniff and cover some more if it wasn't to her liking. God I miss that!
  7. I totally understand where you are coming from. I know in the future I will never be able to afford two dogs again. However I have always had a low interest credit card with a $5k limit on it that I wrote on with a sharpie "dog use only" to keep me honest. I also worked closely with my vet on medications and if they could/would match online prices. I also used the mobile vet clinic that would be held at PetCo for annual shots and heartworm tests (a little over 1/2 the cost that what the vet would charge). I am lucky enough that my vet's office is open 7 days a week and open late...so e-vets have been avoided.
  8. Congratulations, what a beautiful trio. I look forward to more photos and adventures soon.
  9. Your words were perfect! Godspeed Macho and visit often...
  10. Beautuiful eulogie, and I am so sorry for the loss of Patrick.
  11. The Hispanic grocery stores around here carry both plus things like beef hearts and parts I have never seen sold before. Also get the word out now to friends and family that if they are not going to use the turkey necks and parts that come with the turkey for Thanksgiving and the holidays that you would like them. Now get ready to get a little grossed out the first time you hear them crunching and cracking bones, it's a little unnerving, but after a few turkey necks their teeth look noticeably cleaner. Oh, and when they poop after eating a raw neck you will see bits of white bone in their poop.
  12. After a long courageous battle with the dreaded "C" word and LP it was time to say goodbye. We made it one last weekend of favorite foods, really slow walks to smell the world, laying in the bed getting ear rubs, snuggling without a care in the world. I talked to him about the first time I got to met him, he wasn't even one of the three I had emailed that I wanted to meet. I instantly fell in love with him and asked if I could walk him for a bit. After all of the paperwork was filled out I remember loading him up in the car and telling my friend “oh s***, he takes up the WHOLE backseat”! Red was nice enough to hold back his vomit until we pulled up to my friends house to let a weeks worth of food to spew everywhere in the back seat of the car…another oh s*** moment. Then getting home and having to call my friend to let him know “he looked a lot smaller at the kennels and what did I get myself into”. Then the first three months I swore Red hated me because every time I walked into the room he was in he would move to another. It seemed as though the only time he tolerated me was when it was time to walk and get treats. Then it clicked and I gained a shadow that always wanted to see what I was doing. I fell in love with all of his quarks and that is probably what I am going to miss the most. I laid in the floor at the vet and looked him in the eye and told him again how much I loved him and to find Gypsy and Sadie and to listen to Sadie because Gypsy always got him into trouble. He peacefully closed his eyes and drifted off. Gypsy (86423/100A) and Red Dawn (88498/30A) gone, but will never be forgotten:
