  1. What a little trouper Sending my sympathy.
  2. I wonder about the diagnosis, but it really doesn't matter. Time is short and you are right in enjoying each & every moment you have. Sending prayers you have many moments left
  3. Thank you all for your kind words. I had a moment at Sandy Paws and almost lost it. I went over to Robin & Laze's booth and there was the most beautiful pink collar with rhinestones and I immediately thought "Grace!" and then, realizing I really had to work to hold it together. Someone told me perhaps Grace was there and helping me choose the collar for another girl.
  4. Sending my sympathy I know how you feel....
  5. I'll have to check at work but I think the dose was around 200mg x 2 It was compounded in Arizona. They were really good about getting it out.
  6. Lost my answer grrrr..... Tony's original result was 1:16 Three months later 1:4 and 1:8 three months later 1:2 & 1:2 they said keep him on it another 3 months & retest. He died 3 weeks after the last test (probably hemangio or cancer -- he was peeing blood). His blood work was good other than the VF.
  7. I don't know what his titre is and hopefully your vet is in contact with Dr. Holland. She is very good. Liza: if it's a low babesia titre it may not need to be treated at all. There are varying viewpoints on this and many us choose not to treat certain titres. Again, Dr. Holland is good and I'd go with her. Tony had herbal supplements (I'll have to try & remember what or email vet) and also acupuncture every 2 weeks and then every 4 weeks. I jumped thru hoops to get him to eat enough. I could have opened a grocery people and dog store. It is a very nasty disease.
  8. Again, the length of time depends on how severe they are (isn't that true Shannon?) 12 weeks wasn't near enough for Tony (as I said we kept checking) however, Tony I believe was near death when I finally snapped as to doing the test. When I talked with Dr. Holland about his titre level, she told me he probably would be on the meds a year and she was right. Reason? A tough combination with VF & babesia but both left untreated can kill.
  9. It depends on how the tumor comes out. With Austin, it didn't come out easy (in pieces) and he lived maybe 3-4 months -- but they were good months and he recovered from the surgery pretty well. He was about your girl's age. I'd do the surgery again if it were my dog and I had a good surgeon. Sending lots of prayers.
  10. I really hope you are mistaken on this. What was his test result? Usually they are on it 9-12 months. We tested Tony about every 4 months. Had he lived, we estimated he would have been on it a year.

  12. He sounds like a very sweet character! I thought about you all day yesterday. Sending my sympathy (I hope Abbey is ok with the loss)
  13. I would never diaper a dog having oops turds nor would I acknowledge he was doing them. Shadow would do them in his sleep and if I didn't pick them up before he woke up he would jump up in horror wondering who pooped in his bed! I never told him.... Heart would try so hard to make it out the door, somtimes she would fall. I got to the point I would assure her it was ok and to "take it easy". They were simple to clean up.
  14. I met her the weekend of Sandy Paws which was not long (perhaps 2 weeks) after Austin went to the bridge. We visited B&J kennels at the Jacksonville track. I got whacked by the big boys and loved on, then I opened Grace's crate. She demurely wagged her tail and softly put her head on my shoulder. I got sucked in big time. That was probably the one and only time Grace was demure & soft! I called her Austin's joke to me. I contacted her owner and arranged to adopt her when her race and breeding career were done. No breeding career so she came home a few years sooner than expected. In retrospect, that was a very good thing. She retired from Orlando, and went to spend a little time with Marilyn: We were all fortunate that Pam Davis was coming my way that Christmas, and on 12/23 (the day Magic went to the bridge several years before) Grace came home. Marilyn & Chrissy were fortunate that Grace left and I was fortunate that I didn't have to drive to Florida to pick her up.... She was rude and obnoxious to the other dogs. She was a people person. And, she wanted the people for herself. She was the only dog I could do nails on by myself, if I wanted to do ears I'd pick up the q tips and ask her if she wanted her ears done and she would run over -- anything that was for her was fine Talking with her over the past few days about going to the bridge, she clearly adopted the attitude of "I can't hear you".....she wanted to stay, pure and simple. So young and she didn't want to go. As I said: I don't know how much more heart I have to break. I am glad she waited long enough for me to really love her. I even liked her. Anyone who has had a diva pita come into their lives, knows what I mean.

  16. Get the meds from the compound pharmacy in Arizona. Much cheaper.
