  1. I had to return a bag last month (early) because of this. Dogs wouldn't eat it. The new bag I got not a problem. Then I switched them over to the chicken. They've been eating the beef for 2 years.
  2. It was changed quite awhile ago to every 3 years -- at least for those 8 yrs old and over.
  3. Home cooked should work the best especially since you can vary the ingredients to keep him interested. Dogs with kidney disease don't eat well (no appetite). Did they teach you how to give fluids so you do not have to take him to the vet? It is not hard if he will stand or lay still for you.
  4. So, all my vets are wrong? Hmmmm......I said if the ratios are good, we don't worry about it.
  5. It's a very bad year for allergies everywhere. My grandchildren inherited their allergies. My DD & her DH pulled up all the carpet, and their allergy doctor told them not to get rid of the dogs & cats, just don't let the kids sleep with them.
  6. Is he on doxy? If he has been on pred over 10 days, you have to go down slowly and not stop quickly from what I understand. To many greys, pred is very bad. I've been lucky with the guys I've had. Will he eat cooked red meat? That is what I give to dogs that need their hemocrit upped.
  7. No. I've had a lot of seniors with 3+ protein and as long as the ratios are good, we (vets & I) don't worry about it.
  8. Fresh Factors by Springtime, http://www.springtimeinc.com is what I have used for around 15 years. Works well
  9. Send him back to the adoption group. Assuming they have the tools to work with him, or make the painful decision to let him go.
  10. I haven't read all the replies, just your post. Sounds like a bad fit and he needs to go back. No one is happy.
  11. Vets will tell you 48 hours then it's time for a visit. Since you have had him only a short time, it's possible he has critters and needs medicine.
  12. Please contact one of the people who have offered to help (including me)
  13. Sending my sympathy & hugs :grouphug I've had it happen and it's just devastating
  14. If she is still on rimadyl and not eating you are suppose to stop the meds. Another vet is in order. Please email me at Burpdog@msn.com
  15. Sending my sympathy -- I know you will miss her lots. Thank goodness you found each other!
  16. I either go with only meat or add potatoes. If you use rice, cook it with more water than usual.
  17. And if she's reallllll houndy, she'll just look at you and eat off your plate :lol Boy, did I have adjustments to make going from working breeds to hounds...... They will l earn, it takes patience With food, remember all the food they have ever seen was prepared for them. It's a concept many forget or don't know.
  18. Food allergies will show up in ears, sometimes feet. Usually feet is grass. Poor Isaac had no allergies to grass until he'd been here 2 years. Ears, however, itched. I broke down & did allergy tests. Very strange that he was allergic to rice, turkey, lamb, peas to name a few. All the things I was feeding him and kept him away from chicken which he can have Go with grain free for a bit and see if it helps. Isaac does pretty good on NB duck & potato
